I was talking to my daughter in-law-today, and I asked her, "Hey, what are you up too"? And she said..."I'm making Leprechaun Traps with Chase and Kyle", (my grandsons), and I said, "Okay..." I said, wondering where she was going with this. "A Leprechaun Trap"? I replied, and she said, "Yeah, I found these really neat sites on google, and just type in the keyword "Leprechaun Traps" on Google, and they have a whole bunch of ideas, and crafts that you can do with your kids", (or grandchildren)! So I took her suggestion typed "Leprechaun Traps", and lo and behold, wa-la, tons of stuff showing tons of things you can do with your kids, or grandchildren.

I figured that since it was almost St. Patricks Day, that I would share this with you, for your young ones, and your grandchildren as well, and it looks like lots of fun and more importantly, it gives you an opportunity to do something creative with your kids or your grandchildren, and also lets their imaginations go crazy with things to do to catch one of these tiny little guys. They also take the time to explain what St. Patricks Day is all about. Which is quite educational. I part Irish, and I loved it. I also love the movie, (Darby O'Gill, And The Little People", if you can pick it up, do it and watch it with your kids, they will love it!! (A very young Sean Connery even sings in it)!

But I'm getting off track, back to the subject at hand, these sites tell you about different kinds of Leprechauns, and some of the Irish folklore about these little shoe cobblers. It tells you what attracks these little guys, and what to use for bait for your trap! You can use coins, because the leprechaun's LOVE coins, and guess what? They even love Lucky Charms Cereal, or a lucky coin, or anything you think is lucky...they love it! You can make these little arts and craft "Traps", and the kids will love doing it! My Grandson's do!!

These sites also explains about what Saint Patrick's Day is all about, and they have host of things that you can do with your children, and it was very informative, and there are tons of other sites out there as well, I hope all of you out there can catch your leprechauns, as in this day and age, we could sure use that "Pot Of Gold", I'm sure most would agree. But according to some of the sites, they say to make sure you catch the correct kind of Leprechaun, the one that wears " Old fashioned clothes of green, with a red cap, and multi-pocketed leather apron, and buckled shoes, now he is the one you want to trap, because he is the one with the magic, and gold, and loves to hide his crocks of gold at the end of the rainbows, where only Leprechauns can go. He will do anything to trick you, so beware...do not take your eyes off of him if you should stare him in the eye, otherwise he will disappear!!

You don't want to trap a Clurichaun, because he is the one that has no money. He dresses well, but never knows where to find money, and is always drunk. NOTE: Nowhere in Irish history, does it speak of female Leprechaun's, so no one knows how Leprechauns are born, your guess is as good as mine, and if you find out, let me know. Now do something with the kids, and get busy making that trap...you can use the GOLD!!!

This sounds like a lot of fun. I think I'll try it with my two wonderful granddaughters. But I don't think I have to try to trap a Clurichaun. I think I've already met some of those in my neighbourhood. :-)

David, hahahahhaahahhaha I have a few in my neighborhood as well. I really appreciate that you read this, and also commented. It was more or less a whimsical thing to write about since my grandchildren are doing it, but I love what they do, and they're mom, encourages them to do these things, and she is very creative, and always thinks of things for them to do....!! Thanks again for your wonderful comments, Your friend and fan in pen.......Gary.

"Keep away from Her!!-" one of my favorite movie lines of all time, and from "Darby O'Gill and the Little People." We would use it a lot at work in my younger years. My foreman was from the "old country." Ireland, and had the accent you would expect.

I would have never dreamed googling "Leprachaun traps" would bring anything! Wow, awesome!
