If you don`t know which are the most critical months in pregnancy then it is vital you find out now to keep yourself and unborn baby safe and healthy. Although we talk of particular months, every month is a critical month while carrying a baby. Things that can harm a developing fetus like smoking drinking and taking illegal drugs are a few to mention of what makes every month critical. When we talk of serious times in pregnancy we relate to the first 3 months. It is of the utmost importance that you avoid the potentially dangerous hazards that may cause nasty complications in your nine months of pregnancy. You need to focus on the good things that you will benefit from. Things that help you to carry your baby easier, have a sound and less stressful birth and contributes to your future child`s health are the focus points you need to concentrate on.
Some women unaware to them have miscarried doing something that they were used to doing before falling pregnant but sadly not knowing of the consequences if done while a growing baby is in the womb. There are several things you can do during your pregnancy to help carry a healthy baby. Things like taking folic acid and avoiding cats are matters you need to know about to stay safe. When a person has a health issue, whether it is about how to maintain good health or how to treat it if it has been infected in some way we naturally go see our GP for help. Well this applies to pregnancy. You have to keep all appointments at the clinic with your midwife or doctor so your pregnancy can be monitored, and should any problems rise they can be dealt with there and then.
Pregnancy pointers below to keep well
A pregnant woman will need folic acid and prenatal vitamins along with plenty of protein. If the ideal amount of folic acid is taken into the body it significantly reduces baby's risk for spinal bifida. Prenatal vitamins put goodness back into the body. Taking proper vitamins can help protect against diabetes developing. The RDA of protein for pregnant women is 75 grams up to100 grams which is more preferred. Ample intake of protein in pregnancy is essential for baby`s growth (especially the brain.) It is known also to help protect against preeclampsia during pregnancy.
A pregnant woman needs to check if she is immune to German measles (Rubella) because there is a high risk of miscarrying and fetal deformities if she has them.
Introduce exercise into your daily activities if your doctor says it is safe to do so. The most important of all to dos in pregnancy is to eat the right foods. Your diet needs to include plenty of vitamins, minerals and fiber. Check with your GP about fat in your diet because as a rule we have been led to believe it is not good, however the fat and cholesteral, which you normally try to avoid like it is taboo, are important for absorbing the fat soluble vitamins (A,D,E, and K) and for stretchable skin. Fat is also necessary for the developing baby brain.
The above are some of the usual things most pregnant women will know about, but there are also other things that you can do to better you`re pregnancy months that you may not know about.
Every home is full of hidden nasties (chemicals) which unfortunately can`t be avoided. Some to name are paint, stains and household cleaners. You can help filter these chemicals out by adding extra house plants around the home. Not only are houseplants decorative household items – the spider plant is known for helping rid formaldehyde (contained in paints.)
Below are things you are not to do in pregnancy or stamp out completely from your life. You will be doing your body great justice if you keep them out or give them up forever after giving birth.
1. Smoking - Give up cigarettes and avoid smoking areas because passive smoking is just as serious and can harm your unborn baby. Exposure to smoke can result in spontaneous abortion, pre-term births, low-weight full-term babies, and fetal and infant deaths.
2. Refrain from drinking alcohol in pregnancy because the consequence is very damaging for the fetus. Alcohol has a variety of negative effects on a growing baby in the womb depending on the dose and frequency. After birth defects can be of the most severe kind in new born infants, - and retardation being one.
3. Pregnant or not, drugs are a no go. Taking illegal drugs in pregnancy is an idiotic thing to do and the guarantee of a safe delivery of a healthy baby boy or girl being born is zilch. The snippet following this I found about drug use in pregnancy should be enough to say you need to get clean. "In utero drug exposure is associated with an increased rate among newborns of low birth weight, central nervous system damage that may delay or impair neurobehavioral development, mild to severe withdrawal effects, and physical malformations such as cleft palate, heart murmurs, eye defects, and abnormalities of facial features and other organ systems." Unless your drugs are prescribed by your GP then it is not advisable to relieve backache or even headache with any type of painkiller without the doctor giving you thumbs up that it is safe.
4. Cut down on caffeine, if too much is consumed during pregnancy it is thought to increase the probability of a child contracting diabetes.
Now what I am about to suggest about the things to avoid while you are pregnant may have you think it`s all a joke, well it`s not because after doing some research on the list given below happens to be true and that they need to be avoided.
5. Tell your GP if you have any contact with reptiles as the salmonella virus is transferred through their feces and can affect your pregnancy.
6. Tick bites open you to the risk of Lyme disease, which can be lethal to your developing baby.
7. Fish concentrate methylmercury, which is known to affect the developing child's brain.
8. Don`t eat junk food because it doesn`t provide essential vitamins or protein needed in pregnancy.
9. Taking in as little as 4 times the RDA of vitamin A, you greatly increase the risk of having a baby with birth defects, Natural sources of vitamin A are fine - it is foods that are artificially supplemented you need to evade.
10. Avoid X-Rays when you're pregnant and put off dental treatment if possible till a safe period is given by your doctor or dentist to have dental X-Rays done.
11. It says in the book to avoid microwaves but I am not sure what to think on this "don`t" Ask your GP to put your mind at rest. Also at the same time enquire about your electric blanket as they supposedly give off low-level electromagnetic fields which may be harmful to a developing baby.
12. You should avoid tap water and drink bottled. Research says during the critical months of pregnancy tap water can increase risk of miscarriage.
13. Avoid pesticides and paint fumes
14. If your body temperate is allowed to rise to a dangerous level it can cause serious damage to your baby. Anything above 102 degrees is not good at all in pregnancy. Hot tubs/baths have a tendency to raise your body temperature and therefore are to be avoided.
15. Avoid cat litter boxes and working with undercooked meat because you run the risk of toxoplasmosis, which causes birth defects.
All the suggested advice and tips given here are not to be practiced or endorsed without checking with your GP first. All you have to do too keep your baby healthy while pregnant is to think about the infant 24/7 and this will help you make the right decisions as to what is the right and wrong things to do in your pregnancy.
