A woman after being told she is pregnant will want to do right by her baby that she carrying. Pregnancy is a wonderful thing and a "wonder" that only woman will ever experience. We have many women come forward who are new to pregnancy and want to enjoy the moment but are held back from doing so because they are not sure of what to expect and what to do while pregnant to keep their baby healthy during the nine months leading up to the birth. You need to enjoy your pregnancy from day one. Feeling good about yourself and condition will help strengthen the bonding process between you and the little one inside the womb. Of course we have the symptoms of pregnancy to tolerate but they don`t last forever making everything all so worthwhile in the end.
I have to address the matter that not all pregnancies run smooth. Some expectant women suffer serious complications in their pregnancy, and if put in comparison with pregnancy symptoms then the symptoms become only minor issues.
Let us look at the things you can do and implement throughout the nine months that will help protect you and your baby`s health.
If you are a new mom to be then my advice is to get more understanding about pregnancy in general. From knowledge you learn how to overcome any fears you might have. I mention fear because the unknown can be frightening. Knowing about pregnancy symptoms will help you cope and deal with any discomfort deriving from them.
Early pregnancy symptoms happen during the first trimester (3 months.) During this time the fetus is developing all of its organs and your body is seeing many changes. We don`t normally see symptoms during the first month but around the time of the second month, morning sickness and possibly vomiting can happen. You are not to panic if you spot light bleeding at this time because it is known as implantation bleeding which is caused usually by the fetus implanting itself into the uterus. Nonetheless bleeding in pregnancy should always be checked out no matter the month.
During the third month, symptoms can be deeper and include:
- Headaches
- Mood swings
- Constipation
- Heartburn
At this stage baby is normally around 4 inches long and his/her head is making up about 50% of its total body. This time sees a developing brain and vital organs, and it is from these factors which tell us the first three months in pregnancy are the most critical.
For you and your unborn baby to stay healthy in your pregnancy you need look at the foods you eat. You may have over time believed you always ate healthily, and no doubt you did, however we now have another person to consider. Your diet has to include foods suited to you both. Consider following a fitness and nutrition program specially created to keep a growing baby healthy. For the system in pregnancy to function properly and co-operate with body changes – it will require essential vitamins and folic acid. A healthy pregnancy can only be called so if a good diet is included. If healthy foods are not eaten how can you have a healthy pregnancy? Your diet needs to be low in fat and consist of different fruits, vegetables, dairy produce, and lean meats. You need to speak with GP about the safe foods to eat while you are pregnant.
Include in your diet lean cuts of red meat because they provide B-complex vitamins and essential minerals like iron and zinc.
A healthy pregnancy diet will consist of vegetables. Important foods to include are beans, broccoli and berries, all 3 are most beneficial to mother and baby. Chickpeas, lentils, and soybeans are stuffed with nutrients like iron, fiber, protein, calcium, and zinc. Berries contain Vitamin C, potassium, fiber, and folate. Broccoli contains a wide range of nutrients including folate, lutein, fiber, and calcium.
Pregnant women wanting to contribute more to their body and the welfare of their baby need in their diet the Omega-3 fatty acids. Scientific research showed that omega-3 fatty acids promote brain development and vision. Eat salmon, eggs with omega-3, and flax seeds, all of which gives an ample supply of fatty acids. Crush flax seeds and sprinkle them on salads, cereals, and oatmeal.
A pregnant woman will see her body change in many ways, some she may like (bigger breasts) or some she don`t like (big belly.) Sorry girls it's all part of the package and I am afraid to say nothing you can do about it. Because of these changes it is extremely important for nutrition to be pumped into the body.
The nutrients you eat are used during the development process and are also used as nutrients by your baby. Nutrition will make sure proper development of baby occurs, reduces the risk of miscarriage and provide additional support for your body in the first 3 critical months. Most miscarriages happen around this time in pregnancy. Taking prenatal vitamins will provide you with nutrition.
Drink plenty of water as it is a crucial component of a pregnancy nutrition program. Flavor the water with lemon juice if you don`t like it on its own. Coffee tea and fizzy soda drinks need to be drank within moderation. Alcohol is forbidden in pregnancy if you want your unborn baby to stay healthy.
Reasons for drinking water is
- Rids waste and toxins
- Helps digestive process
- Prevents dehydration
- Assists the flow of nutrients to developing baby
- Helps with constipation
Drinking plenty of water can help reduce food cravings. Some women may not want their food cravings reduced especially when they include strawberries and cream, however if these cravings are for sucking on a pig`s trotter covered with jam, then yes, reduce them. In saying that if they contain nutrients then suck away.
In every diet we have the good and the bad. In pregnancy eating what is not good for you and your baby can have severe consequences so be careful on what foods pass your lips.
Foods to Avoid
- Uncooked eggs
- Unpasteurized milk and cheese
- Raw fish and meats
- Fish with high mercury levels
- Unwashed fruits and vegetables. If in a foreign country on holiday use bottled water to clean foods
Eating a well balanced diet full of nutritious eats can help shorten and ease labor. You must never diet in order to lose weight while carrying a baby it is dangerous. Nevertheless you can certainly look at ways that will help show off a healthy shape while you are pregnant.
If you introduce exercise into your daily activities it will have you in shape in no time at all. How can any one look good with a swelling belly you may well ask? Well women do because of their positive approach to their pregnancy. Enjoy your belly; think of the life inside and you will now see your shape as something of beauty. Consult with your physician about exercising.
-
If you are looking at doing aerobics and you have never done them before then it is not ideal.
-
Avoid exercise that will cause you to overheat, since this will directly stress the unborn baby.
-
Drink plenty of water before, during, and after exercises.
-
Do not over exert yourself
When exercising be conscious of your breathing patterns. As your pregnancy becomes fuller, keep exercises that require you to lay flat on your back to a minimum. Do not squat. If you put too much unnecessary pressure on yourself while exercising it can result in you stressing yourself out. Pressure comes naturally at the end of pregnancy but if you follow the above suggestions then pressure turns to pleasure because you did right by your baby.
