"There's always a party in Amsterdam"

 "The Biggest Party Ever"

Is Queen's Day and it's on the 30th of April. Queen's Day, or "Koninginnedag" started as Queen Juliann's Birthday in 1949 and it established itself as the most celebrated holiday in Holland. It is a must experience of street party, tourists , backpackers and carnival lovers.

When it's Dutch, it's fun! the best day to visit the canaledcity Amsterdam has always been know for its vibrant life style and fun loving people. As they say, "There's always a party in Amsterdam". Queen's Day is no exception. Actually, in my opinion, it is the best day to visit the Canaled city. The party starts on the night before with many squares filled with people celebrating the holiday and preparing for the following day.

On Queen's day, the most noticable change in the city is the canals filled with various and numerous boats. These boats are mostly filled with locals that are wearing the national orange color and cruise the whole City while playing there own music as loud as they can and cheering everybody in the streets. If you are lucky, you might even be invited on one, just for wearing orange!

At every corner of the city ,in apartments , hotels and houseboats there is another smaller or bigger party taking its own direction. It is truly grand. Just imagine, almost every apartment, houseboat, square, restaurant or bar has its family, friends and customers celebrating. In addition, the Dutch don't spare any expense when it comes to having a good time on Queen's Day. There
are famous DJs, actors, and all sorts of local and international famous participants. You can walk around and visit hundreds of parties in one day and you would be welcome everywhere.

Another very distinct feature of Queen's Day is of course the variety of orange hats. On that day, you are guaranteed to see a new style of hat for the first time. Or if you have seen it, it's time to see it in orange. It is a day that you could buy or sell almost anything on the street. Bargains on new and used items are all over the city and food and drink is on every corner as well.

There are many people that paint various parts of their body with the Dutch colors of the flag and I along with the local friends that I have visited were no exception. If you would like to visit Amsterdam on Queensday please book your holiday accommodation, apartment , hotel or houseboat a few months in advance, or you will not be able to find any accommodation.
