Four Spark Plugs suddenly became self aware. They looked around in amazement at the intricate details in their form and shape. They suddenly understood that the size of the gap on their heads had to be precise for them to function properly. They knew they had to have been created, there must have been a creator. They expanded their observation to the engine around them and they were humbled in awe. They did not understand the purpose of most moving parts, but that did not diminish their appreciation for the complexity around them.
They yearned to know the nature of the creator. What traits does the creator have and what adjectives can they attribute to him? Then they noticed that the opening in the engine was made exactly to fit their bodies. They loved gasoline and they were inexplicably placed at a location where gasoline was poured on them throughout the day. They loved the heat and their surroundings were mostly kept hot. They loved to spark and indeed they were created as Spark Plugs. They concluded that the engine must have been built for them. All that complex machine and all that power, built just for them. The creator must be loving they thought. He built a complicated world just for them.
The Spark Plugs started praying in chants thanking their creator. They still could not make sense of the purpose of the machine around them but they were sure that they were a central part in planning that creation.
The Spark Plugs noticed that every once in a while the engine stopped and they suffered unspeakable cold. They invented special chants to ask the creator to prevent the engine from ever stopping again. The chants worked very randomly. The engine still stopped now and then.
They could see that every once in a while one of them stopped working and was mysteriously taken away. They had chants for the creator to take good care of those who were taken and to bring them back at another time. No Spark Plug ever came back.
The Spark Plugs were perplexed because if this whole machine was created for them, then why was it intermittently so cruel to them? They concluded that it was all part of the creator testing the loyalty of his creation. They chanted hymns praising the creator and pledging their loyalty to him.
A few feet from where they were chanting, their chants drowned by the sound of the engine, sat a 62 year old lady driving her car to the mall.
