In the summer of 2006, The Lagoon 420 will replace the famous Lagoon 410 (of which over 270 were built!). The Lagoon 420 will be the first production recreational sailing yacht to be built with electric engines as standard.
Faithful to Lagoon's creative features, it is above all, a particularly spacious boat. It will be offered with a 3 or 4 cabin layout. Each of the 4 cabins features a Queen Size bed with side access, a washroom with separate shower...a yet unseen layout on a 42 footer! The spaciousness will make this vessel perfect for sailing vacations.
With the 3 cabin version, the owner can enjoy a real suite in the port hull with a Queen size bed and a sofa, a desk, a large washroom, walk-in wardrobes, lockers, etc....
Whichever version is chosen, the saloon is well lit and includes an L shaped galley with ample storage space, a large work surface and direct access to the aft cockpit. It is a user-friendly boat with all controls brought back to a unique helm station. The genacker bowsprit and the mooring gear are fitted to a central fore and aft beam. It features a standard hardtop bimini with optional panels to enclose the cockpit completely.
With a tall rig, a gull wing shape bridge deck and an overlapping genoa this is by far the fastest roomiest catamaran that Lagoon has designed. Powered by two 8 kw electric motors and an 11KVA/220V or 13.5KVA/110V generator as standard
Complete installation comprises of two electric motors connected to propellers by straight shaft transmissions, one generator and two set of 6 batteries. When batteries are 100 % charged, the boat will be able to function with both motors for approximately two hours (depending on speed). When batteries are 80 % charged, the generator will automatically start and charge the batteries in order to provide electricity for the motors. When sailing, propellers will turn freely and recharge the batteries.
Benefits
• A modern, forward-looking solution
• A clean and green system: low fuel consumption, little carbon dioxide emission
• Runs in silence
• Only one diesel engine to maintain
• Electric motors are maintenance free
• Energy savings: the generator provides electricity for the motors, the batteries and the daily boat needs (air conditioning, power outlets, washer/dryer, etc.).
