President Barack Obama (D-US) 1st term Photo: President Obama   All messages are published with permission of the sender. The general topic of this message is Terrorism :

Subject:

Peace, or War.

To:

President Barack Obama
March 30, 2009

Dear President Obama,

I wanted to drop you a line, to express my feelings about what is going on with the Al Quida. I am opposed to additional conflict with the Al Quida, and I am happy that we have reduced their numbers considerably since 9-11. But is more war, and killing the right answer in the eyes of the world? I question that, as our posture has not been a favorable or popular one during the Bush Administration. I do agree with your concerns about what is going on in Afganistan, (I saw your news conference the other day) and your heart is sincere and I am concerned about it as well. I voted for you this year, after being a Republican for what seems to be a hundred years, but in you I saw change, and determination to make a difference in our collective and current state of affairs. I wanted to share a poem with you that I have written, regarding the 9-11 incident, that many citizens share. I am a proud Vietnam veteran, and this subject is near and dear to my heart. I hope you actually get this, as I have written President Bush when he was in, and never received a word from him. I pray all your decisions are the right ones, and well informed by your administration. My God bless, and keep you on the right path.

Here is the poem;

September 11th To Those That Died On That Fateful Day

Where were you, on this fateful day,
When hell showed up, and took them away.
The Twin Towers, is what I'm talking about,
The most wicked disaster, without a doubt.

Thousands of people, were lost that day,
In the most gruesome, devastating way.
Planes dove into those, two massive towers,
What would only be minutes, turned into hours.

For those responsible, God would know,
And in the end, he will show,
That murdering thousands, is not the answer,
But the hatred that this represents, Is a menacing cancer.

It's got to stop, this is so true,
Is war and more killing, the right thing to do?
I'm not so sure, that is the answer,
Cause if we kill thousands, Are we spreading the same Cancer?

Ask yourself what God would do,
If you look at the bible, you'll find the clue.
Thou shall not kill, is the definitive answer.
To stop the spreading, of this devastating cancer.

Let's pray for the loved ones, that we have lost,
Don't let their death's go in vain, Keep this in mind, at all cost.
Let's end this Cancer, that's cause's so much pain,
For in death and war, there is nothing to gain!

I can feel your sincerity here, Gary. It's a wonderful dream but there are people who want to kill us simply because we are different. I don't think we will ever be able to let our guard down.

I agree with David, that is an excellent poem, heartfelt as your work always is.

Ken, Your right, I really don't think we can let our guard down, I think all I am trying to say here is lets "Get er done" as far as the war goes , and aggressively go after the culprit that is driving  this terrorism, and get him, then bring our men and women home to their families...I know since time began, that wars have ensued, I being in Vietnam understand war, (unfortunately) all to well, and the why's of it...your right tho, we cannot afford to let are guard down ..... for sure.....Thanks for reading and commenting on this....you know it is 1:00 in the morning, the only time I have to get these messages out....I also get allot  of comments from the folks on facebook and myspace....geesh...hahahahhaah like I am complaining. Your friend and fan.......Gary......are you going to do one of the mini sites? if you are, let me know....I will go there......

Thank you Linda for reading this, I do understand why we are there, I just want to get it done, and I reckon that I'm a little impatient....but I know that we have to do what we have to do. I was in combat for 3 tours in Vietnam, and know all to well what it's like being under fire, and I pray everyday for the youngsters over there.....I will be glad when they can come home.....thank so much for your kind comments Linda, I appreciate your reading my article....your friend in pen.....Gary

War is an ugly thing, but it has been going on for thousands of years and will not end until the return of Christ. I feel badly for all those US soldiers who have lost their lives trying to make this a better world. I also feel badly for the innocent families in Iraq and Afghanistan who have lost loved ones because of these wars.
Our Canadian military has lost over 150 soldiers in Afghanistan so far; not a large number compared to the USA, but tragic deaths just the same.

Thank  you David for reading this and your comments, war is an ugly thing, and it's really to bad that it has to happen. It's not wars of survival or food sources, but wars of property, land, and resourses that upset me so. But alas, you are right, its been happening for thousands of years, you would have thought that man would have learned by now..... Thanks for your great comments, and your thoughts.....Your friend and fan.....Gary.
