Creating a website was just one of those things I told myself I'd do someday. Researching and sharing information is something I enjoy, and a website seemed like an efficient way to share helpful information with my friends and family.  There were several challenges I needed to overcome before I could proceed with the website building experience.  First, although I can navigate the Internet and email with no problem, I know practically zip about operating a computer. And second, I was certain I couldn't  justify to my CPA spending money to build a personal website, so I had to find a site that offered free web building everything.

My search to find a free, easy to navigate website builder that offered free tech support and hosting began early in the morning on my day off.   I'll never admit how much time I spent looking for such a website, but I finally found what I wanted on Synthasite.com. I signed up and nearly completed page one of my website. The experience was almost empowering in a cosmically, insignificant way.  So, I took a break before continuing the task at hand.  I emailed nearly everyone in my address book about my website.  Within hours, a friend told me to check out the free website builder at tripod.com and a cousin informed me she'd created her website on myspace.com quite some time ago, and it was easy, fun and free.  Okay, where were you guys and your helpful advice twelve hours ago?  Well, at least I now know of three, free website builder .coms and can offer some help to a newbie, who's newbier than I.

Great article. Well done.

I find Synthasite better than weebly. Anyway synthasite has put in a two milion dollar bid to buy weebly.

An example of a website made by synthasite free is: www.bhsobserveronline(dot)co.uk

I did it the old fashioned way; I self-taught myself HTML code and went from there. I have built two commercial sites so far and one for myself. My website now has over 700 pages. It is a real great feeling to be able to set up a website, whether using an editor or programme, or just with raw code.

I'm glad you were able to accomplish what you set out to do. Now, if you're like me, you're hooked.

I certainly admire you for doing all of that.  Quite honestly, I'm sure that's beyond my abilities, but you've challenged me to think about giving that a try one day.  I appreciate your response.

Great article, Grammy. I, too, was in your position (actually, I'm still not much more computer savy); but I did build my own website and it was free, so here is your fourth 'freebee'---Microsoft Office Live. My website is http://www.sandragraham-articles-books

Just in case you'd like to check out another 'free' site. I am also on FaceBook, Blazing Trailers (another good one you may want to check out if you have books to promote), MySpace and some I have forgotten.

Welcome to Searchwarp, Grammy--a great place to flex your writing muscles.

I really enjoyed your delightful article. Two years ago at the help of an author friend of mine, I too ventured off into the world of building my own website through "Freewebs.com" Now I have two sites and for the last several weeks have helped another friend to set up hers. I think it's a great idea to learn at least one new thing every day. It shows that no matter how much we already know, we've remained teachable. Welcome to Searchwarp.

A website is certainly a handfull but you seem to have gotten off to a good start.

» left by Grammy Guru (1,084) (182 days 10 hours ago.)
Yes, it can be a big project, but I don't have a lot of free time, so it is what it is.  I just have had so much fun with it.  For me, writing on my website is sort of like thinking out loud.  I'd love for it to be something wonderfully informative and entertaining, but I am also realistic.  Right now, I'll just be pleased if I don't humiliate myself with what I've done.  Thanks for the feedback and best wishes.

hi Grammy,

i think that was a very brave move for you to build your own website. i've been trying to simply get my 2 aunts to get a laptop for e mail, for years now.

another aunt did get one for christmas, and she loves staying in touch with 10 nieces and nephews, and umpteen great nieces and nephews.

thank you for sharing this article, and the free websites.

i hope you continue writing,

welcome to searchwarp,

best regards,

sue thom

Thanks so much, Sue.  I've added the websites that others gave me to my own website.  If it just saves one person some time in their quest to build a freebie, as far as I'm concerned, it's worth it!

Hi Grammy;
I am new at this too. I have been struggling trying to learn. It sure is a challenge. I appreciated your article. I inspires me to keep going on. This marketing is complicated (I think). I guess it just takes time and eventually things happen.

If this website weren't ultraeasy, I wouldn't be doing it, period.  I couldn't do it from scratch, although I wish I were techie enough to do so, but that's okay.  As long as it gets done, I say.  Thanks, and best wishes on your journey!

After reading your article I have no more excuses for not trying to build a website. Thanks for the input.

» left by Grammy Guru (1,084) (170 days 23 hours ago.)
Good luck, Linda!  I have run into some issues trying to establish links; however, I'm not a techie, so  . . .

At any rate, trying to build a website is fun and has forced me to learn new things about my computer, so from that aspect, it's been a good thing for me.  I'll be looking for yours now!

Best wishes,
Grammy
