Canon EOS 40D is made of premium materials that are perfect for heavy duty and a variety of shooting conditions. It is constructed with magnesium alloy exterior with improved dust and weather resistant construction, particularly around the camera's connection ports, battery compartment, and single slot compact flash memory card door. The Canon EOS 40D is a 10.1 mega pixel digital camera. It has a high resolution for images.

Photos can be captured at 6.5 frames per second in the continuous shooting mode, with up to 75 large/fine JPEG shots per burst. Response is enhanced, also, by a minimal shutter release time lag of 59ms. Photographers using Live View can see the entire frame as opposed to the optical viewfinder, which only displays 95 percent of the view. There's also a 5x and 10x zooming functions to provide for ultra precise focusing. Photo outputs show an excellent and dynamic range. High ISO images seem to have better noise reduction.

Images are processed at 14 bits for a greatly expanded colour depth, providing smoother gradations and exceptionally accurate colour reproduction. Images captured from ISO 100 to 800 are essentially no compromise when printed at 13x19 inches. Canon added a lot of new technology along the way, making the Canon 40D's spec sheet seem pretty flashy. Images can be reviewed in clear, vibrant colour on the Canon EOS 40D's impressive 3.0. Live view mode lets you compose from difficult angles with ease by turning the LCD into a viewfinder.

Image data captured by the CMOS sensor is processed by Canon's purpose built DIGIC image processors before being written to the camera's memory card. DIGIC technology uses advanced image processing algorithms to ensure precise, natural colours, accurate white balance, and advanced noise reduction.

Menus are clear and easy to follow, and navigation is good. Menu navigation is incredibly quick and easy on the 40D. The menus have been re organized so that they no longer require any scrolling.

Noise doesn't really become an issue until ISO 1600 and even then isn't that objectionable. The bottom line is that the Canon 40D is the most DSLR for the money that Canon has ever offered. Noise Ninja will analyze a photo for noise and then go to work at removing as much as it as it can. For me, this has made ISO 3200 completely usable, whereas before I probably wouldn't post a photo due to the nature of the noise.

Autofocus is consderably better/faster. The larger colour LCD on the back is easy to see even in fairly bright conditions.

Digital photography has transformed the industry, and the Canon EOS 40D is a great example of the best digital technology has to offer. Instant feedback, editing on the fly, the benefits are bountiful.
