Mercury leaves his shadow after Jan 8 (at 26' Sag), which finally makes room for progress with communication, technical projects, publishing ventures and projects that connect you to foeign lands and people. With the tragedy in the Indian Ocean, this may be the ideal time to reach across the globe and lend support to those who are in the deepest need. This is perhaps the time when we may hear the most hopeful news about humanitarian aid and a rebuilding effort. I do not like to be one one who peddles gloom and doom, and yet, I did see this week between Christmas and New Years as being a very challenging one. Unfortunately these aspects continue to be in effect and to influence us for the rest of January which means that more sad news may emerge during this time. I will be posting my 2005 Astrological Forecast later in the week. 'As your New Years Day is spent, so goes your year' is the traditional wisdom I learned years ago. In experience and practice this has shown itself to be hugely accurate in my life, and so I suggest to you, that by practicing mindfulness and awareness in your New Years Day acivities, you can create a positive magical ritual to influence the direction of your 2005. Think metaphorically rather than literally. For a year filled with romance do some slow dancing to sensual music, for a year filled with art, to the museum, for health do something physically validating - you get the picture. But above all else, do something on New Years Day that brings you joy. As for the Astrology this month, the New Moon 1/10 (20' Capricorn), puts all our minds on status, structure and authority figures. We may hear a great deal in the news about the rebuilding of Sumatra, as well as other newsworthy subjects that are close to the government, beaurocracy and status laden experiences. We will all feel the pressure to strive and live up to our ideals, goals and personal ideas about status and life accomplishment. This can be a tough few weeks for those who are overly perfectionistic - as we always find ourselves measuring short of the yardstick of our dreams. 1/9 Venus then Merc. enter Capricorn, just in time to join the emotional concerns and pressures to succeed expressed by the Capricorn New Moon. By Jan 24 we must meet the deadline laid out for us by the Moon with a plan and a set of ideas, and by the 26th, our work (or lack thereof) either earns us a cash bonus or a collections bill. We're on a schedule baby, and this train will keep it's timing with or without you. Mercury - Pluto and Venus form a conjunction on Jan 3/4 ('21 Sag), reworking the same degree that we have been feeling Mercury dance around on for the past 2 months. This 3 way conjunction could signal financial transformations, secret information about the financial markets coming to the surface, or clashes of values, heated debates and power-plays regarding the appropriate use of finances, funds, property, ownership deeds, the stocks and bonds markets, as well as debt and mortgage paperwork getting the public treatment. Good ones to watch on these dates areFanny May, and the Bond trading market. It could also represent a jucy (and I mean salacious) story about a femme fatale (Paris Hilton, are you listening?). Just what Paris Hilton needs is yet another salacious story. The Full Moon on Jan 25 (5' Leo) blasts out a clarion call, signaling a shift out of the ambitious mode and into the glitter and glam of awards season. Get ready to watch and be dazzled by the dresses (or horrified by the boorish loud and outragious behavior that Mars (crossing the 21' Sag degree) stirs up. Expect the unexpected as Venus Squares Uranus on this day. Rebellious behavior is to be expected. 1/26 Chiron enters the shadow (21' Capricorn), close enough to our previous Moon glow that we feel our wounds regarding feelings of worthiness or unworthiness due to our glittery worldly accomplishments or failures. Don't be too hard on yourself, healing is on it's way. 1/28 Neptune enters theShadow (14' 49 Aquarius), making a long-term retroactive influence that can be by turns confusing, deceptive and inspirational. This is a 'preview of coming attractions' that offers us a glimpse of what we are in for after mid-May. Drug companies, the FDA, Vioxx and even the passing of new legislation will get reviewed all summer long. This Neptune also influences art and technology and often both at the same time. While Neptune continues to trine Jupiter he makes the wish fulfillment or heartbreak aspect. Many of our hopes and dreams can be manifested under this influence, especially those of the mental 'brain child' variety. But the old addage always applies, be careful what you wish for.... Much of this Neptune soup can be confusing, filled with drugs, escapism and other mirages. The key now is to seperate the Maya from the Magic. 1/29 Merc enters Aquarius, making the mind-scape more forward thinking, progressive, unconventional and innovative. Forget thinking outside of the box, this Mercury doesn't even recognize the box. This is a great place for Mercury and he is right at home solving the worlds most complex problems and figuring out how to make order out of all this chaos. No restrictions please!! Genius at work. ARIES – Your ruler Mars is chasing Mercury and Venus all month, in similar fashion you find yourself chasing after your ideas and money (or a beautiful conquest). Around the 23rd you are able to catch up to yourself and make something substantial happen with your ideas and concepts - perhaps even nail down a lucrative contract. By the 28th when Mars joins Pluto, you are ready to take some powerful action on recent discoveries and perfected presentations. This is the day when you can make the most of whatever was set up by the triple conjunction on the 3rd/4th. TAURUS – Venus is skipping along, arm in arm with Mercury all month, giving you an unprecidented flair with words, art, fashion and sales presentations. The triple conjunction on the 3rd/4th puts you in the position to exert influence and power through your words, values and especially your ability to reach down to your toes and transform yourself from the inside out. After Jan 9, you are ready to take on any and all bureaucracy/red tape. GEMINI – Your Mercury ruler's current partnership with Venus the goddess of love and beauty lands you right in the middle of her golden glow, increasing your popularity and ability to earn cash. The triple conjunction (see above) with Pluto, puts you in the negotiating seat between powerful secret deal makers, or financial affairs. Can you dance for your supper? Opportunity exists here, but approach this dragon's lair, very, very carefully. For most of Jan, working within the system produces results, but at the end when Mercury shifts into far-out Aquarius (1/29) you really get inspired and everyone can see the stars in your eyes. CANCER – Don't allow this month's Moon cycle to depress you, but just as importantly don't allow it to influence you into valuing accomplishment above love and family concerns. This is a passing phaze, the rest of your life is not. Jan highlights partnership issues and demands you get serious. Hard lessons, and even karmic obligations make you very aware of limitations. Don't allow subconscious feelings about power struggles or financial pressures to get the best of you this month. The Full Moon on the 25th brings out your creative potential, it's time to clear out unfinished projects and turn them into cash. LEO – Many, varied and potentially lucrative opportunities arise for you this month - especially for Aug 9-15 Leo's. Whatever you have been thinking and talking about begins to happen after the triple conjunction on the 3rd/4th. Most of the month demands you focus on routines and creating orderly systems - pets could be highlighted as well. In Jan, hard work, and service to others is the solution to all. After the 25th, dressing up, and attending a social event with a partner invigorates your sense of glamor, just stay out of the way of angry people. VIRGO – The tripple conj. early in the month brings home stressful realities and limitations. Mick Jagger said it best, "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need." In this case what you need just might be some things that had never even ocurred to you. Being serious and embracing hard work allows you to catch the wave and make the most of your popularity and trustworthy appearance. What may look like problems to other people, lend great opportunities to those Virgins unafraid of getting their nails dirty. Jan brings in status conscious art and lovers, your perfectionism approves. LIBRA – Early in the month you get the score, and it is heavily weighted in the favor of one player. By staying close to the source and aligned with this individual you stand to profit, but be warned that falling victim to the temptation to throw your weight around like the big boys do, is likely to backfire on you at the end of the month. Playing in the sandbox with the big wigs, doesn't actually make you a big wig, so refrain from borrowing power that is not really yours, even in jest. This month your jokes could upset someone powerful – the occupational hazard of being a smart clown. The planets put you in the position to be the scapegoat, so it's smart to keep a low profile until Feb. SCORPIO – Uniquely able to manage and organize the group finances, loans, property management, and trusts, you are in the power seat. Just be careful to consult your crystal ball before making any irreversable decisions. The I-Ching says that in changing (troubled) times, it is best to call in and preserve your resurces. This is the time to seize opportunities, but not to take unwarranted risks. The difference is subtle, and only you can decide which is which, so make no hasty decisions. In Jan, you are the one speaking out about following the rules, as you take some comfort in the safety of the status quo, just be careful not to attach your security to something that it is on it's way to obsolescence. SAGITTARIUS – Those born the third week of Dec are on quite a roller coaster ride right now. How does it feel to ride your own personal tsunami? Unsettling, I imagine. And yet, like the Fool card in the Tarot, you dangle on the edge of the precipice, protected by unseen forces, ready for action to do you know not what. The key for Sag. today is in joining the passionate intense animal nature of the horse with your rational, thinking human self. "I think therefore I am" says Descartes, and yet you need something more, something more along the lines of 'I feel passion, I manifest my reality from these passions, therefore I am part of the world, and the world is part of me.' Jan makes those discoveries tangible. CAPRICORN –Yes there is opportunty now - you are able to attract mentors, or become one with equal benfit. This is most true for Early Jan Caps. This month's Full Moon asks you to let go of titles, and aspects of status that you may be overly attached to if you think it justifues your value, then it must go. This bumpy month may require sacrafices of you, or it may just ask you to re-examing your underlying beliefs and values, lest they be attacked from the outside. Your influence is not overt now so it is best to just quietly try to remind others of the laws of karma and workings of spiritual principles - it is the best way to be effective. AQUARIUS – Neptune sojourning in your domain, is in cahoots with the king of the gods Jupiter, making you uniquely able to get what you ask for. You are also brilliantly supported in any and all legal ventures, or complicated sifting of facts, figures, numbers - you get the idea. The most important thing to remember is that in order to break the rules, you must first understand them. Your inner rebel may want to throw the Baby out with the bathwater, but resist the temptation, and you will prevail. You work diligently behind the scenes in Jan. - ignore power plays that seek to distract you. At month's end you sparkle and shine, as people seek out your company and brilliant mind. No idea is too outragious, just wait until after the 25th to reveal them. On the 28th when Neptune enters the shadow you are put on notice that there will be a long-term review of something that pertains to you. PISCES – Rules and regulations could suddenly change, leaving you trying to figure out which way is up - especially regarding the unification of splintered groups or philosophies. This long-term influence really heats up early Jan and you must do something with the fall out. Fortunately both of your rulers favors gaining assistance, partnerships and shared juggling of these complex affairs. The planets are assisting small businesses, but slamming large ones, so make your decisions accordingly. The end of Jan finds you embroiled in the public spectacle, there's nothing you can do about it except take note of the change in the wind that you feel when Neptune enters the shadow on the 28th. What's happening now, gives you a taste of what's to come and could help you to plan effectively for the review that is scheduled for mid-May.
