Hello, How about another free motorcyle riding tip from Rich Lafferty Racing motorcycle school. Lets talk about the mental side of racing/riding a motorcyle. In my six years teaching motorcycle schools I see it all the time at schools and at the races. I have even got caught up in it myself.

Alot of your results racing/riding your motorcycle can be attributed to your mental toughness. Lets start with this example. That little self talk that we all have going on in our head can be the root of all issues related to riding your motorcycle. For example at motorcycle schools I have seen students when tackling an obstacle such as a log, ask them selves this question, "how bad is this gonna hurt?" This is the wrong atitude to have joking or not. Do you remember that saying by I think Henry Ford, "if you think you can or think you cant, then you are right."

You get what you focus on. Try an ask yourself better questions and think clearly and more positive, attack obstacles with the atitude that you will succeed. Here is another example have you ever seen someone so excited the day before a race, or trailride only to wake up to a rainy day. Yes rain does make things a little tougher to negotiate, but please remember that it is rainy and wet for everyone at the race/trailride, not just for you. So enjoy it focus on the fun. How fun is it to play in the mud? Alot! Its just like when you are riding in the woods if you focus on something you don't want to hit, such as a tree, what usually happens? You hit the tree! You get what you focus on.

While teaching motorcycle schools I have seen guys with so much talent but with a negative atitude that held them back.

People may be able to point it out to you, but that usually doesn't end up good. So think about it, do any of the examples fit your personality? The first step to changing your atitude is recognizing it and admitting it to yourself. This is usually the hardest step. Then make steps to change it. There are plenty of books and tapes to help with any sports related issues like mental state. So pick one up and take your time and give it a try. It will take time, because remember it took you all your years alive so far to think this way, so changing it will take some time, but it is well worth it. Good luck!
