There are certain things you can do that will make you feel good about yourself. These things are just the opposite of the stuff like greed, selfishness, lust, and laziness, that often leave you feeling guilty, dirty, worthless, empty, and depressed. Those negative things are why there's so much unrest, despair, and discontent in the world.

Doing the good things on a regular basis and making them part of your lifestyle will more than likely improve your quality of life. But even doing them once in while can temporarily lift your spirits out of the doldrums. I have listed some of them below.

1) Be disciplined about something. Don't waiver. Be resolute.

2) Do something good for someone, without seeking a reward and or any kind compensation.

3) Go a whole day without eating junk food. Eat only the stuff that's good for you – like fruits, vegetables, cereals, and low-fat meats.

4) Get some exercise.

5) Refrain from using profanity as long as you can.

6) Visit a shut-in or someone who is in a hospital or nursing home.

7) Volunteer for something.

8) Donate some money to a charity or other good cause.

9) Get eight hours of sleep.

10) Be honest with yourself and others.

11) Be respectful while behind the wheel of your automobile and defer to other drivers.

12) Attend church.

13) Read the Bible.

14) Be willing to allow people to cut in front of you in line at the grocery store and other places without grumbling.

15) Hold your tongue. Don't verbally assault anyone with ugly or insulting remarks.

16) Be tolerant of other people's shortcomings.

17) Go the extra mile. Do more than what is required of you.

18) Don't cut corners. Be diligent and conscientious in your work.

19) Be willing to take the blame for things that go wrong and allow someone else to take the credit for stuff that works out.

20) Rather than getting into an argument or dispute with someone, proceed under the assumption that you are wrong, until it is proven otherwise.

21) Resist immoral thoughts and behavior.

22) Put yourself last.

23) Live within your means and use credit wisely and sparingly.

24) Pay your bills on time, preferably well ahead of time.

25) Be prompt and don't procrastinate.

26) Read a good book.

27) Learn a new language.

28) Let go of any grudges.

29) Learn a new skill.

30) Do some things you've putting off or neglecting to do for a while.

Hi Terry will do my best to follow the rules because I need to feel good about myself. But I do get despondent at times when I face rule 24 - I always pay on time but they just keep on coming - then I am afraid it isn't long before rule 5 kicks in.

Keep well Terry

A lot of great pointers in your write that shares the beneficial effectiveness of acts of kindness even if it is loving yourself ~ the serotonin levels have a tremendous ripple effect for those that participate.
