If you are anything like me, you will appreciate this guide for budget-friendly restaurants in Detroit, Michigan; Fuddrucker's is a franchise, so they can be seen in most cities. This guide will benefit you, if you are looking to enjoy a good meal, wish to drive a short distance in metro Detroit, and save money.

When family and friends are looking for me, they usually know that I am at Fairlane. Local Detroiters call the entire shopping area by that name because of Fairlane Mall. And, I'm sure many of you know that malls have shopping, eating, and entertainment throughout it's corridors. At Fairlane Mall, Detroiters also enjoy going to the movie theater, and other dine-in' restaurants outside the mall, but in the same area. My favorite to stop in, and enjoy a budget-friendly meal is Fuddruckers at Fairlane Mall. This Fuddruckers offer a $5 meal, consisting of a burger and fries. And, if you wish to add a drink other than the usual soft drink, iced tea, lemonade or water, you can purchase a drink from the bar. My favorite drink, which I've deemed to be "Qwen's Delight" is less than $5. So, I can slide into Fuddruckers while doing my shopping, and come out full on all ends without spending over $20!

A favorite for me and my co-workers is Cass Cafe, located in the Wayne State University area, and home of the $1 beer. Cass Cafe is my first stop when I schedule interviews for work, and my interviewees have all given the place a thumbs up'. For a party of three adults, a complete meal with drinks included was less than $25. Cass Cafe is located in a well-known area, being in the school district. Be aware that there will be many students of Wayne State University filling the place, especially on the weekends.

Now, I've shared places to go for lunch and dinner that are budget-friendly. As my last budget-friendly restaurant in Detroit, I would like to share a place where you can enjoy budget-friendly meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or in between. Normally, my assistant and I go to Royal Grille Coney Island for breakfast. Coney Island restaurants are a fixture in Detroit, and surrounding areas, and you can find one on almost every corner; coney islands are sorely missed when I travel sometimes.  Not many places around the U.S.A. where you can get a hot dog, topped with coney sauce for 99 cents.  I can get my usual 8 cups of coffee and a sausage, cheese breakfast sandwich, on an English muffin for less than $4! Royal Grille is conveniently located near I-96 Jeffries freeway, on Livernois and Grand River. They have three ways to serve you: dine-in, carry-out, an drive-thru.

So, if you are ever in 'the neighborhood', these are my top three choices when I'm looking to fill both, my belly and my pockets! And there are many restaurants in your city or town that offer the best bargains for a good meal, anyday, I'm sure. It would be nice if we had more large food chains and franchises to specialize in 'bargain dining'.

Great article. Well done.

I would love to give it a shot. However, I would have to travel 3000 or so miles and then defeat the purpose of having a good meal at a low price.

Ronyae,

A very interesting article, thank you for writing it. I, myself, work in a Mall as a Customer Service person. My favorite place is the food court area where at any day, during my lunch break, I can have a choice of Chinese, Indian, Italian, American meal for less than $10.00 (they served very good portions).

Thanks again.

Nenita

Nenita,
Now, you're my kind of person!  When I worked at the mall, I spent more time in the food court than at my actual job!  Thanks for reading and sharing a comment.

Another great article. Myself being from the UK, i am always told by people who have visited the US that it is so cheap to eat out there, in some cases even more so than eating in. That is not the case here, going out especially in a group can work out quite expensive, maybe why some restaurants are nowhere near as busy as they were a few months ago. I would thank you, but you have made me hungry so i am off to raid the fridge :-).

I don't know if I'll ever be in Detroit, but thanks for the travelogue. We have Fuddruckers in Calgary, Alberta, but I've never been there. I'm not sure if it is from the same chain of restaurants.

One comment about the restaurants in the USA, in my experience, which is often, is the wonderful personalized service. I don't find the same thing in Alberta, Canada, which is where I live. Part of our problem is that we live in a very wealthy part of Canada, and jobs are too easy to find. In fact in the last couple years we have had a major labour shortage. It seems to have affected the service industry in general.

Another thing I find about American restaurants is the enormous portions of food that is served. I think that is wonderful, but almost too much. I have often seen where both my wife and I could have dined off the same plate and been satisfied. Perhaps that is why the average American is getting larger?

Anyways, I'll quit rambling now. Thanks for the always entertaining articles.

I live in a small town and we just got a Red Robin so our franchise's are few and far between however we do have some great local eating spots. Enjoyed your tour.

We are always looking for a bargain. Just tonight during one 1-hour show, two commercials for food places with $5 meals aired. I think everything except maybe very upscale restaurants will have to cut their prices a bit to stay in business with more people eating at home.

Didn't do much for me, Ronyae, but then again, I live in another country. Next time I'm in Detroit, I'll probably wish I could remember your recommendations. Best of luck, regardless.

I love to hear about good places to eat--at reasonable prices. But like Connor, I would have to drive a long way to get to Detroit. At any rate, I'll look around for a Fuddrucker's here in Arkansas. Great article at any rate, Ronyae.

Have a good week.
