For all you tweens who are considering babysitting as a moneymaker this summer, it's a good idea to talk and pray with your parents about your desire to start.  They can help you determine if you have the time and are ready to work.  Parents will also need to be in on the decision-making process, if they will be providing transportation to and from your jobs.

Discuss each job offer before you accept it.  Some jobs may not be right for you, especially if you are just getting started.  Your parents can help you decide which job is best for you.  Be sure travel arrangements to and from jobs are made in advanced.

When accepting a job, let them know who you will be babysitting for, what time the job starts and what time you will be returning.  Remind them if you will be getting a ride from your client, or if you will need a ride home.

Let your parents know where you will be, and what time you will be home.  Leave the address and telephone number where you can be reached.

Do I Have Time?

Time is one of the most important things to consider when starting a babysitting business.  Will it interfere with music classes or sports practice after-school?  Are you allowed to go out on school nights?  How late will your parents allow you to stay out?  In the summer, will you be going to camp or on a family vacation?  Find a calendar and fill with all of your activities throughout the week.  Include time for studying, family time, and time to hang out with friends!  Use a color marker to highlight open times for scheduling in your babysitting jobs.  Don't forget to leave yourself some free time for homework and fun!

Reminder Tip: Keeping a calendar will help you not to over schedule, or forget an appointment.  Parents won't want to call you back, if you cancel at the last minute because of another commitment.
