Bake at 400 degrees F for about 1 hour, or until tender. The cooking time will vary from 1 hour and up depending on the size and quantity of potatoes you cook. The skin should be puffed up, golden brown, and crispy when the potato is done baking. The potato should squish easily and be very soft on the inside. When opening a potato, becareful because potatoes retain heat. To open a baked potato, take your fork and stab a dotted line around the potato. Then using your thumb and index finger squeeze at both ends of the line. It will pop right open for you. Potatoes can be baked in a convection oven, a microwave oven, on a grill, or on (or in) an open fire.

Baking TImes For Baked Potatoes

Conventional or Regular Oven

* Medium-size potatoes (5 ounces or 150 grams each)
* 45 minutes at 400 degrees F.
* 60 minutes at 350 degrees F.
* 90 minutes at 325 degrees F.

Convection Oven

* Medium-size potatoes (5 ounces or 150 grams each)
* 45 minutes at 375 degrees F.
* 60 minutes at 325 degrees F.
* 90 minutes at 300 degrees F.

Convection ovens cook up to 20% faster than regular ovens. The potato in a convection oven is also cooked at a lower temperature than in a regular oven. The general rule is to decrease your oven temperature at least 25 degrees lower than a regular oven. To check the doneness for baked potatoes you can also try using a meat thermometer, if you have one. The internal temperature of the baked potato will be 210 degrees F when it is done being baked. Once the baked potato is finished add your favorite toppings.
