When it comes to putting new tires on that bike remember to go easy on them for the first 50-100 miles. The process often coined as scrubbing in your tires is very important for your safety and the performance of the motorcycle tires. While dirt bike and ATV tires are not as picky on this process street tires should be worn in gradually over the first ride or two.

You will be removing the chemicals that are stuck to the outside of the tire during manufacturing while doing this. The mold release in particular is the one that causes new motorcycle tires to have less traction for the first few miles. When riding on the break in, slowly increase your amount of lean angle from mild to wild.

Remember whenever you start out your motorcycle tires are cold. Wait for the first few miles to corner, accelerate, or brake hard when they warm up (this is a good habit to get into all the time) and more traction is available. Smooth application of the throttle and brakes while doing this to progressively stronger levels will aid in the scrubbing/heating as well.

This process gradually gets your motorcycle tires cleaned up of any residue left over from the factory. Getting your new tires broken is key for safety and the livelihood of your investment. Now you can ride easy, or hard with confidence knowing that you will be connected to the road the way your machine was meant to be!
