What is it that dupes people into believing that Arthritis only affects the elderly? The main reason given for this misconception includes granny and granddad. Watching the aged struggle to hobble along and bent over because their bones won't allow them to straighten up without creaking, or hearing them cry out in pain because of their twisted fingers - does in a way give good reason for being easily misled into thinking this. Osteoarthritis is a common form of arthritis which is suffered regular by old people; however arthritis can occur in youth as well. Cause of arthritis in young people is usually rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune disease that attacks the joints.

Arthritis is an illness which affects the joints causing them to swell which as result causes severe pain for the sufferer. Joints are areas where two bones meet. Some types of arthritis are not solely restricted to the joints, body organs like the eyes, or those in the chest can be affected. If at any time you see swelling on the body that includes pain or redness it should always be checked out by your GP.

Once again coming back to the issue of misconception - people think that if they get arthritis they won't be able to work ever again or take care of their family, but more of a frequent concern is, and embarrassing too, is worrying over not being able to tend to their own needs in the sanitary department. There's no doubt that arthritis can be severely painful but in the case of mild arthritis there are things you can do to better improve the condition allowing you to get on with things. There are many forms of arthritis but the two most common are rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis usually affects hips, knees, feet and spine. It can also occur due to an injury to a joint.  Whereas with rheumatoid arthritis we see this come about when the body's own defense system doesn't work correctly. This specific type of arthritis commonly affects joints (small finger joints, wrists, knees and toes.)

The people who live in fear of being struck down with arthritis should find the time to applaud them involved with medical research.  The long endless hours of research in laboratories have paid off giving arthritis sufferers or them that fear it, hope.

Scientific experts have just revealed a drug reserved for advanced rheumatoid arthritis (RA) could save thousands of people with early stage disease from disability. Clinical trials showed rituximab, marketed as MabThera, almost entirely stops deterioration of the joints in patients showing the first signs of the disease.

There is still much to debate over after experts said the latest finding which was presented at the EULAR conference could lead to a shift in suggested treatment. While the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence supposedly said that rituximab should only be used if other arthritis drugs (TNF treatments) have failed. Recent study on 755 sufferers shows the drug, when combined with the gold standard treatment for early RA methotrexate for a year, not only seen a decrease in symptoms but gradually slowed joint damage to almost a complete halt if used early enough. Approx 70% of patients treated within six months of their first symptoms developed no joint damage over the first year of therapy, and after only six months of treatment joint damage stopped almost entirely.

In the United Kingdom approx 18,000 people are diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis annually.

Arthritis refers to inflammation of a joint. There are over a hundred different types of arthritis which can be subdivided into the following three main groups: Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, and Gout. Gout symptoms are more known in the lower limbs targeting the big toes first.

The female is three times more prone to arthritis than the male.

The causes of arthritis are quite varied and also quite scary because most of them are somewhat unavoidable and out of our jurisdiction to try and even control. Given causes include genetics, age, infections, deficiency of organic sodium and minerals, trauma, mental or physical strain, obesity, cold weather, even over indulgence of rich foods can cause problems.

Below you will find a variety of home remedies to try for your arthritis, however not to be practiced unless your GP says it is safe to so.

  • Take alfalfa capsules to help with your arthritis - alfalfa is rich in minerals much required for the formation of bones.
  • An intake of 700 mg of chondroitin sulfate taken daily will assist in strengthening joints and ligaments.
  • Vitamins are key essentials for overall health but vitamin E qualities protect and improve joint mobility.
  • Bogbean has special elements which are mighty (It is a aquatic herb.) It's also a popular home remedy for treating rheumatoid arthritis and Osteoarthritis.

By changing and introducing new things into your daily life may help ease arthritis pain

  • Drink raw veggie and fruit juices. Some arthritis sufferers swear by drinking freshly squeezed potato juice.
  • For morning stiffness caused by arthritis consider using heat packs on the stiffened spots.
  • Eat healthier foods and take a multi-vitamin daily.
  • Avoid fatty meat; eat only fresh lean organic meats.
  • Add foods to your diet such as onions and garlic which will help repair cartilage, bone, and tissue damage.
  • Cut out or try and cut down on caffeine, tobacco, and salt. Avoid too much sugar
  • Flaxseed oil pills are natural and help with arthritis.
  • Take a hot bath if aches and pains are bad.
  • If possible perform some light exercises in the bath. Should this prove to be painful and difficult don't push you're self.
  • Heat the stiff joints in the morning using a heat pack then switch to an ice pack and place it periodically on the troublesome areas during the day.

You will be facing a multitude of choices regarding treatments when looking to cure your arthritis. You need to be careful. Some arthritis treatments may well help, but then you have promoters that offer a solution for easing your pain, when in fact they do the complete opposite - causing serious complications instead of a cure.

I can only suggest as an arthritis sufferer myself is to be sensible. And the sensible thing to do is take advantage of research. It is the medical people that give us the causes; it is the medical people that delve into the mechanics behind this illness. Purely because of these facts we need to believe in these people who know how to treat our arthritis and hopefully cure it
