I don't believe in climate change
Or in the dangers of passive smoke
I don't believe that guns can kill
Or the economy is going broke

I don't believe in mental illness
Or people who don't believe in God
I don't believe in evolution
Or that horses should be shod

I don't think we should immunise
Or rape victims be allowed to choose
I don't believe the world is round
Or that it's safe to eat genetic food

But I do believe in burning witches
And sending them straight to hell
And I do believe in using torture
If it stops a tyrants spell

I do believe in taxing taxes
And running cars on gas
And I do believe in beating seals
And watching their last gasp

I do believe in terrorists
And giving up my rights
I do believe in paying more
To let others live in fright

Now you may say that there is hunger
And that we have a part to play
But I assure you, my girth is growing
For I eat well, every single day

You may say that child labour
Is a cruel and moral wrong
But check out my new nike's
They were going for a song

You may say the water's rising
That it's impossible to miss
But I truly do not see it
For my ignorance is bliss...

WOW, Ben! I'm nearly speechless ... nearly, I said. This is a great write, and a clever way to shine light on ignorance. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Hi Ronyae,

Thank you for your kind comment on my poem. The poem came about after I read an article yesterday that had me picturing an Ostrich with its head in the sand.

“Nothing in the world is more dangerous than a sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”

 Martin Luther King, Jr.

Kind Regards,
Ben.

Hi Aldric,

Thank you for your comment on my article. I'm always working on my poetry skills and trying hard to improve. I think any time a writer stops learning, practicing and pushing their limits, they might as well stop writing.

I really enjoy poetry and find it to be a wonderful medium for expressing a point of view in an alternate way. Really, the internet lends itself to this style of writing because online, concise brevity is key.

If you enjoy poetry you should consider joining the Creative Poetry Network (a very friendly poetry forum for poets of all skill levels). There's a link above. :)

Kind Regards,
Ben.

Thank you Ben I'll be sure to check the link out :) I am myself not gifted in poem writing and I focus more on subject matters I am familiar with. If you have the time do check out some of the articles I have written.

Hi Connor,

I'm very happy and relieved to hear that you are not grumpy with me! :)

I wondered if a few people might be "grumpy" once they'd read this poem, but I certainly wasn't trying to offend anyone; just make a point while throwing around a few rhymes (you know, like MC Hammer, Kermit the Frog or Eminem).

Kind Regards,
Ben.

You surely are a creative writer - wouldn't want to go around with all those "do" items in my head.

Hi Marion,
Thanks for your comment on my poem. I must agree, I'd hate to be a "do gooder" who did any or all of those particular "do's".

Have a great day,
Ben.

Very good, Ben! Sadly, we are no longer a country that manufactures what we need. I think that was the part that nudged me the most when reading. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Lorrie,

Thanks for commenting on my article. Sad but true, very few countries are self reliant anymore. Very few people are self reliant and self motivated, so I guess it's no wonder the problem seems systemic.

Take care,
Ben.

Hi Teresa,

Thank you for the very generous comment on my article. It has been awhile since I've managed to post anything, but I have a good excuse, I've been revelling in being a dad and just enjoying as much time with my son as I can. *grin*.

Have a great day,

Hi Rhonda,

I agree with you completely. Those are words I try to live by, "actions speak louder than words", unless of course you happen to be a ventriloquist mime.
