Acid balanced shampoos are everyday shampoos. Any shampoo can become acid balanced by adding citric, lactic, or phosphoric acid. these shampoos prevent excess dryness and hair damage during the cleansing process.
Conditioning or moisturizing shampoos are designed to make the hair smooth and shiny, to avoid damage to chemically treated hair, and to improve the manageability of the hair. The conditioning agents in these shampoos restore moisture, elasticity, strengthen the hair shaft, and add volume. They are also nonstripping, they do not remove artificial color from the hair.
Medicated shampoos contain special chemicals or drugs that are very effective in reducing excessive dandruff or relieving other scalp conditions. Some of these medicated shampoos have to be prescribed by a physician. They are very strong, and could affect the color of tinted or lightened hair.
