Jennifer Aniston is not an attraction for me. The movie looked irresistible on the previews and seemed very family friendly too. Being in the mood for a comedy I gave it a watch.
More than a film about dogs, this movie captures the essence and trials and tribulations of marriage, family life, and the delicate balance of life, success, and climbing your way to the top; something that most of us struggle with at one time or another. Marley and Me I can honestly say was more than I expected.
With a touch of realism and plenty of cuteness this is an excellent film for kids and adults. Jennifer Aniston did a nice job but the dog had me hooked. The plot was simple and fun and Owen Wilson did well too. The whole thing came together to provide a good time. Even though the previews were a little misleading about it being a total comedy.
I guess the thing that perhaps impressed me the most, is that I am always looking for a good message from a movie and this one actually had one. The moral of the story is that good or bad, every day has value and working through the difficult times is worth the effort. Happiness through the pain is really the message this movie is sending, and it really does work.
Warning, it is a bit of a tear jerker, but not in a depressing way, Marley and Me is real. It is the story of life, families, and adaptation. Change in life is inevitable and Marley and Me just lets you see that you are not the only one struggling with it all. Overall, I would say this movie was definitely much better than I would have expected and it all worked really well together, which made it an enjoyable watch, just don't expect a comedy, because although there are funny moments, this movie has much more substance than that.
