As adults most of us see games as just that, a game, perhaps a fun way to pass the time. When in reality fun kids games play a very important role in the intellectual development of children.

Games are the avenue young children use to learn about and explore the world. Think of games as their text book of sorts. Through fun games young children learn the concept of cause and effect. If they push a button the toy makes a noise. Games have a positive effect on physical development beginning at a very young age.

As children grow they begin exploring roll play and developing their imagination. Dressing up and playing with props become avenues to explore social behaviors that reinforce morals and values.

Once kids become school age they are able to participate in knowledge based games. They begin developing strategies, and understand the value of teamwork. Cooperation and collaboration become important skills to master.

Fun kids games are a way to stimulate creativity within a safe environment where children won't be judged according to right and wrong. If the kids perceive the activity as fun they will enjoy it and eagerly participate without realizing the educational benefits hidden within.

We need to remember too that it is important to encourage games that are active. Children need exercise. Through active fun games kids develop large motor skills that they will benefit from the rest of their lives.

Although kids will view games as fun we mustn't forget the importance games play in their development. Both physical and intellectual development is affected by games. We as adults must encourage kids to play as much as possible instead of sitting in front of the TV or computer.

K. Harris has just under 20 years of experience in the educational field. She has seen firsthand the benefit of playing games with children and continues to encourage families to partake in both physical and mental activities. For ideas of fun kids games click here.
