Cakes are a fashionable way to observe just about any occasion in today's world. Cake decorating ideas can be discovered just about anywhere, if you know where to look Yet, not everyone knows how to decorate a cake. Fortunately, there is a tremendous assortment of items and cake pans that will help make decorating them easy as, well, pie..

Before you begin, you will need to know what social function to make your cake for. For example, it would not look good to offer an Elmo birthday cake for a Saint Patrick's Day party. After you know the occasion, the rest is easy.

ANIMALS

You can use an animal cake pan. A lot of occasions can be represented with an animal. For example, Easter is ofttimes typified by a bunny, Christmas can be represented by a deer cake, and a cat cake can be used at Halloween.

Or, you can select from many popular character animals for birthdays. Presently fashionable animal characters include Boots the monkey and Swiper the fox from Dora the Explorer, Blue the dog from Blue's Clues, and Elmo and many of his pals from Sesame Street.

The decorations on top of the cake can also have animals. There are oodles of small, plastic animals available at stores that you can use to adorn your cakes. This would be an outstanding way to create a zoo scene.

HOLIDAYS

Holidays are invariably fun to make cakes for, and you can let your imagination go crazy. If nothing else, you can use colored sprinkles. You can add edible heart decoration sprinkles on cakes for Valentine's Day. Black and orange sprinkles are great for cakes for Halloween, as are green and red sprinkles for Christmas cakes.

You can use decorative cake pans made in patterns appropriate to a specific holiday. Frankenstein, ghosts,, and other monsters are perfect for Halloween. Pumpkins will work for both Halloween and Thanksgiving cakes. Turkeys and cornucopias can also be used for Thanksgiving. Cherubs and heart pans can be used for Valentine's Day. Bunnies and eggs are just right for Easter. Leprechauns, pots of gold, and rainbows pans are great for Saint Patrick's Day. All you need to do is find a cake pan or decorative item particular to a holiday and start decorating a holiday cake.

VEHICLES

Boys seem to be born enamored with moving vehicles. There is just something about a moving vehicle that enthralls young boys. You can decorate cakes that showcase fire engines, helicopters, tractors, airplanes, boats, cars, and dump trucks. You can position vehicles into the frosting to make scenes with them. You can even add small building built from Lego's and Lego's people. Just make sure whatever you place on the cake will not be hurt by either the frosting or water from washing off the frosting from the vehicle or item.

YOUR IMAGINATION

Do not forget that your own imagination can be just as good, if not better than, manufactured pans and ideas. Chances are you come up with themes that no one else has thought of before. If you need ideas then visit your local arts and crafts store, as it is sure to be filled with wonderful items that you can use or get ideas from.

There is no need to worry that you will not be able to come up with good cake decorating ideas. Do not make the perfect cakes seen at bakeries your goal when decorating cakes. Your cakes will be delicious regardless of how they turn out. Know that your efforts are certain be appreciated, no matter how your cakes turn out. So, bake and decorate your cake, then sit back and bask in the praise you get from those who enjoy the fruits (or, in this case, cakes) of your labor.
