I know that you will probably be asking yourself, what does he mean by "The Day The Earth Stood Still" huh? Well, what I mean is, is that the day I joined the U.S. Navy shortly after my father had died, it was literally the last time I had seen my step brother Larry, and my step sister Diane, there was also another step sister Gloria. It seemed that the earth stood still once I had joined the Navy, for the exception of my step brother Larry, whom I had served some time with in the Navy, but after my hitch was done, he soon disappeared. I had kept asking my mom, (God Rest Her Soul), if she had their addresses and phone numbers so that I may be in touch with them, and she indicated that one had moved to the Carolina's, that would be Larry, and the other had moved to Oregon, which was Diane and since then, she had lost contact with them. Gloria much to my suprise had passed away due to complications with her heart and believe it or not, a spider bite.
I had thought about my step siblings very often, as I was really closed to Diane, and Larry was my pal, and Gloria, I knew she had gotten married, and lived in Idaho, but that is about all that I knew about my step siblings. Well recently, I started doing some research, trying to find them, to know avail:( But would that make me give up? Nope! I looked on the internet, on AOL, on MSN, you name it, I looked there, nothing!! Well as time went by, I saw this little note on Classmates that said, "Is the one and only Gary W. Halsey that I went to school with so long ago, and it was signed Diane Blanch, but it had her married last name on there, and I didn't really know if it was my little sister or not. One day, I was browsing around in Facebook and typed in "Diane Blanch" in the search engine, and wa-la, there she was, picture and all. I was jumping up and down with excitement, I FOUND MY LITTLE SISTER!!!! This is after about 43 years of not seeing or speaking to her. We were great friends when we were going through High School. So, anyway, I wrote her a message, and told her who I was, and she was so excited to hear from me, then she sent me a email with all of her phone numbers on them, and I was estatic to get that and immediately called her.
This was to good to be true, and I am so excited that I found her, and of course, she gave me Larry's phone number as well, and I contacted him and his wonderful wife Delene, and I was in seventh heaven, I had not heard from, or talked ot Larry for about 40 years. So now we are communicating, and sharing memories and stories galore. I am so thankful that this day and age of the computer helped me find my family, that I am grateful for. Hopefully I will get to see them soon, Diane is the one who told me that Gloria had passed away, and I was saddened by that news. Both Larry and Diane have kids all grown up, and Larry's son Brandon is a Captain I believe in the army, and boy does he look like his dad!!! I will be in touch with all of them soon, and I just can't wait....I love them all dearly....thank God for computers!!! Stay tuned.
