Lady Bear, Lady Bear, Where For Art Thou Lady Bear?

What, Shakespeare? Who is this Lady Bear that you would use Shakespeare? Oh, I see, it's your dog!

Yes, it's my dog. Seems odd but when you are a writer of fiction and non-fiction, where else would you start but with Shakespeare! (Don't forget to ask me how this puppy got her name, boy that's another story!)

I was inspired by the movie Marley and Me. That little puppy looked just like my little puppy, so many months ago. Then, in the movie, when the puppy destroyed the garage, it reminded me of the last stuffed animal my Lady Bear secured and claimed as her own, leaving eyeballs, a nose and much stuffing as a trail from the family room all the way into my office!

Oh, you would think I was living the movie! I laughed and then I cried at the life and love presented in that story. I turned and reflected on my own life story. How much had changed over the years. From a little girl growing up in Brooklyn, New York, to the uptight married with two small boy's business woman who would never have a dog, dog food, dog hair, poop and pee all over my carpets!

Many years later, my boys were my now grown, 23 and 21 year old sons mad at me when I announced that Michael and I were getting a puppy. Yes, I didn't say dog, I said puppy. You see in my mind she would always be a cute puppy right? Michael, my husband, only showed me puppy pictures (smart marketing on his part). After all, we were empty nesters (at least at that time) and this puppy would be good for both of us. She would smile and love us and he would make sure I never had to take care of the puppy, only give her love.

"Mom, how could you! We never could have a puppy when we were growing up!" The boys complained loudly, but no changing the plan we were living our vision! The cute little white Labrador retriever puppy would be ours. (Sure, seemed simple enough, find the dog, get the dog, have the dog, right?) WRONG! Find the dog meant search out a breeder of white Labrador retriever puppies where are they you say? Perryville, Illinois! Where is Perryville, Illinois, we are in Vegas, baby!

Yes, Perryville, Illinois at a beautiful kennel were the many many puppies we could choose from, chose the mother and father and which litter you wanted, (that's another story)! Ok, but how do we get the puppy to Vegas? By plane you say? Oh no, can't put a 6 week old puppy on a plane, that would be traumatic. Who knows maybe that is why Marley was so destructive.

Ok, let's go get her. It will be a venture you will never forget!
