Everywhere you turn today you can hear or read about how bad cholesterol is for you and your health. Heart attacks and blocked arteries are all connected to elevated cholesterol levels. However, what about the so-called good cholesterol? Also called HDL cholesterol, this little gem is extremely important and is an excellent thing for your body which craves super high levels of it. You are no doubt familiar with how to lower bad cholesterol, but do you know how to get more of that good stuff into your system? Don't worry, it is not that difficult. After reading this, you will have an entire arsenal at your disposal.

Exercise - Might as well get it out of the way. Nothing is more effective at raising good cholesterol levels like jogging or a long walk in the park. The intensity of the exercise is not nearly as important as the duration. 20 - 30 minutes required, just get off the couch and keep moving.

Lose Weight - Nothing is worse than that extra tire you might be carrying around with you; fat actually lowers HDL and increases the cholesterol we don't want. Literally, the worst of both worlds. Need help losing to weight? Please, see Number 1.

Throw out the cigarettes. No excuses this time, just be done. Studies have shown that people who quit smoking show elevation in their healthy cholesterol levels practically immediately.

Run as fast as you can from those fatty, fried foods! Just stop eating them. If you cannot, at least decrease how often you eat them. Increase your intake of healthy foods like salads and low fat options. It is one of the most important parts of raising those good cholesterol levels.

Alcohol - Drink Some! Not a lot, mind you. But many studies show that one or two alcoholic drinks per day do help to raise good cholesterol. Drinking too much leads to its own problems; so just enough for medicinal purposes please.

This by no means is a complete list of ways to increase your good cholesterol. Use your common sense. Maintain a healthy diet and exercise regime. Always keep in mind that you only get one body, so be careful with it!
