Who says money can't buy friends? News on the net is that some are feeling unloved on social networking site Twitter and have resorted to buying "followers."
The BBC is reporting that Australian social media marketing company uSocial is offering a paid service that finds followers for users of Twitter.
Followers are available in blocks starting at $87 for 1,000. The biggest block uSocial is selling is 100,000 people.
The company said they have people lining up to use their service. The company does not in turn pay people to follow, but tries to match up people based on interests and characteristics. It also looks at geographic locations to match closer areas together.
Of course, this is directed at businesses that are using Twitter as a marketing tool. Chances are if you are just lonely and have no friends, this company really is probably not worth spending the money. Maybe getting outside away from the computer is a better option.
Therefore, I am announcing my own business. I will follow you for a mere $1. Any business wants to pay me via Paypal step right up! I am a mom, wife and part of generation x. So if your product fits me as a target audience, line on up.
I can easily be bought and you do not have to go through a whole service. I will represent your product with pride as long as your money is transferred.
I really think this is a waste of money for businesses. You have a better chance of getting followers by offering free promotions. People love free stuff. Just look how popular some businesses have gotten by getting people to tweet about their business product by offering random drawings for prizes.
Take a lesson from the sport teams too! I have started following several local sport teams on the off chance I was the 100th follower and won free tickets, ball, etc. Get creative first with marketing. It probably would be cheaper then buying followers who probably be less likely to talk you up then they would if they got something free.
Don't ever spend money for something that with some creative advertising could get you free followers!
