Increasingly, environmentally aware householders are installing a ceiling airer into their kitchens, utility and boot rooms or garages. Designed to air- dry washing without resort to fossil fuels, this Victorian invention is now getting its second airing.

Using a Victorian style pulley clothes airer is one of the most ecological and environmentally friendly solutions you can do for your home and our planet. And not only that - if you have a period property, this pine and cast iron item would sit perfectly in the kitchen and could well be a selling point.

Although convenient at times, tumble driers use vast amounts of electricity resulting in large fuel bills whilst increasing the carbon footprint of the household. Using clothes airers as a replacement for tumble drying can reduce a households' electricity bills and carbon footprint . The average tumble drier sends 300kg of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every year - that's about three million tons from all the driers in 10?million UK homes. "What most people don't realise is that the hot air generated by heating, humans and machines in our homes, which remains trapped in the top one third of rooms, can effectively be used to dry clothes without the need to drape things over radiators," says Laundry Maid, a Manchester Based pulley clothes airer specialist.

Wet weather and changing seasons are crippling to laundry routines, however pulley clothes airers are effective, reliable and easy to use whatever the weather outside. Due to the unpredictability of the UK weather, drying clothes using indoor traditional ceiling airers once commonplace in every household during the Victorian era is once again a feasible and attractive option for many households.

With no electricity required to operate, ceiling airers are safe and convenient to use even for young children helping parents with the weekly wash.

Every aspect to this method of drying clothes is eco-friendly. The core materials are wood and cast iron, both perhaps the most recyclable materials available on the planet. The way these work are that clothes airer is suspended using the naturally rising heat to dry clothes. Clothes airers can also be attached to doors and Aga's using potentially wasted heat.

Victorian pulley clothes airers make great environmentally friendly items for your home or gifts; for more information or prices, contact Laundry Maid on 0161 230 0821 or at their website: http://www.laundrymaid.co.uk/prices.html
