Is wind a good alternative method of generating energy? Since wind itself doesn't cost anything many people may have the false perception that the cost of switching to wind technology, as a primary source is inexpensive, but it's not. In addition, the wind generating structure (or wind mills), may be the least expense associated with the transition. Upgrading the electrical transmission grid system to accommodate the different green living technology will come at a high price.

One part of the stimulus bill is expected to contain billions to upgrade the nations' power grid. Those funds will be only a minimal part of what will be necessary. It is a monumental task to make the transition from gas and coal polluting technologies to clean wind and solar power but the country has to start somewhere.

The president is said to be considering a mandatory national standard for renewable energy (and it may have been approved by the time you read this). Twenty-eight states already have policies in place that require them to produce or purchase a portion of their utilities from alternative or renewable energy sources and that is good. Once the standard is in place the country will be on the right path to eventually reduce pollution significantly but it will take time.

Some home and business owners aren't waiting though. They are taking steps on their own to upgrade with solar and wind power technologies and the government is offering some nice financial incentives for them to do so.

As with any major system change the initial project will be costly but the end reward of these green living advancements should be priceless. Awareness of the need to transition is growing and more people desire to do their part, and that's a good thing for the country, the planet and future generations.
