It has been six months and my husband and I are still dealing with one illness or another. He had two back-to-back lung infections and me, I continue to have bad allergies and another sinus infection. In fact, I am on my fourth day of a new antibiotic that I believe is working…this time.
This got me thinking, what if we were newly dating. Would we have been attracted to each other after a few weeks/days of snot, wheezing, coughing, and a day or two without a shower?
The other day, as is custom of late, I was feeling and looking…well, rough. What better time to ask my husband a question – a question that led to scribbling these thoughts this morning.
~~~~~
You know you have a good marriage …
When you cough, blow your nose until brain matter comes out, and cuddle with a snot rag – and your husband stays in bed and pats you on the back.
When your wife watches you walk like a 90-year-old man and you take a break every few steps to catch your breath – and tells you that you are a sexy man.
When you are sitting close to your husband and you clear your throat so loudly, the neighbor thinks you are trying to get their attention – and he asks you if can get you some water.
When you are talking to your wife and you cough so hard, green gook practically flies out of your mouth – and she tears up because she is worried about you.
And last, but certainly not least, The Question:
You know you have a good marriage when you ask your husband if you are better looking than Kate Beckinsale and he pauses while actually considering giving you an honest answer – then responds with, "but I love you baby, you know you will always be the only one for me". To which you reply, you are a lying sack of poo – to which he replies, what about Johnny Depp, which leads you to change the subject, just as soon as you are done blowing your nose.
As those vows say, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health… We've done the poorer, sickness, and in health thing, I think we will hang in there until we get to the "for richer" part.
Well, I guess I'm done scribbling for now, it's Sunday morning and time to go to church – we need all the help we can get.
Blessings to all of you!
