Never really planned on going to see this film. It was just one of those things where a friend wanted me to come along and I had never even heard of the film Watchmen before, but I figured what the heck. Now, I am anxiously awaiting the DVD to come out later this month, as a matter of fact I already pre-ordered it.
The movie is based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. The story takes place in an alternate 1985, where the Cold War is still going strong and Richard Nixon is still president. This profound movie features a rich plot, with many levels, including good vs.evil, internal conflict and corruption of those with power.
This is more then just comic book characters on the big screen, it is comic characters mixed with amazing visual effects and action that will keep you on the edge of your seat. One of the most enjoyable aspects of the film was that it was geared towards adult audiences, unlike most movies that are adapted from comic books.
Although the final DVD features have not been released yet, what we do know id that it is said to have a total of two hours of extras. There are also rumored that an ultimate edition will also be following the release which will have different version of the movie.
Now this DVD is already scheduled for release in the US on July 27, 2009, but the good news is that you can pre-order it, even the Blu-ray edition, which means that you will have it sent to you as soon as they are out. Doing this insures that you won't have to risk heading to the store to get it only to find that they are out of stock. This is a great action flick and one you should definitely see, or see again.
