Are you looking to loose weight, tone your legs, and have fun while doing it? It may sound like a over-inflated rhetorical question, but the truth is that spinning, or indoor cycling, can give you all three of these things. Many people claim that after years of trying different exercises and cardio machines, spinning gives the best results. Why? Because the classes are organized to challenge and push participants while providing a fun and positive environment.

If you are looking to lose weight, there is no better option. Indoor cycling will melt the pounds off. Research has shown that an average 30 minute spinning class will help you burn around 500 calories. I challenge you to equal that efficiency with any of the other advertised "low-impact" exercises. Most other exercises would take at least double the time to burn so many calories. The amount of calories burned can even go higher depending on the intensity of your workout, so push yourself if you can. Indoor cycling is also a great cardio exercise because you can stick with it year round. It is not affected by weather or other adverse conditions you may find when exercising outdoors.

Indoor cycling has many health and fitness benefits, including weight loss, cardiovascular, and muscle building. Many spinners agree that spinning is the best cardio workout you can do. Many spin enthusiast also claim spinning it is the hardest and best workout they have ever found. I would have to agree. There is no other workout that leaves me feeling like I just accomplished a huge feat and went beyond what I thought my body was capable of. And although it is" "hard" in its intensity, it isn't hard for beginners to start. Its also no impact by nature so your feet and knees won't hurt. This makes indoor cycling a great workout for people of all ages, even older adults with joint problems. Spinning even helps increase lung capacity and cardiovascular health. The intense workout gets your heart pumping faster, which is beneficial on many levels. To top it all off, spinning will tone your thighs, calfs, hips, butt, and core. It is especially great for the thighs, and the additional muscle created by indoor cycling will increase your metabolism to burn even more calories. So what are you waiting for? Find an indoor cycling program at your local gym and start melting those pounds away!

I just purchased a polar F6 HRM and have used it in several classes with different instuctors to calculate my HR and calories burned. I was really suprised to see I only burned 360 cal in an hour class and 300 in a 45min class. One of my instructors thought it was low and wondered if it was working properly. Any advise would be greatfully appreciated!! Thank You, Jennifer R.

If you pedal between 110 - 140rpms on cogs 1 - 3 for 30 mins, you should burn close to 500 cals.  Interval work will make it more interesting.

There is nothing wrong with your armband.  I too was surprised when I only burn 300 calories in an hour spin class.....I am an instructor so I am pushing myself to the max.  You have to look at your body size too.  Bigger people burn more calories...not fair!

Any "simple" machine that claims it's "easy" (Ex: "just watch TV!") to burn 500 calories in 30 minutes is lying to you.
I'm a 30 year old guy who visits his gym 4 times a week for slightly less than 2 hours each visit. I'm visibly in good shape, and I kill myself burning 485 calories in 33 minutes on treadmills and ellipticals.

Remember: If it sounds too good to be true - it is.
There is no "Easy" way to having a truly healthy, fit and strong body - it takes f---ing WORK.

I agree you need to try a spinning class. I'm also a gym bunny and spinning beats the treadmills and elipicals by miles. You come out of a spinning class literally dripping with sweat!

Spinning will Burn massive calories - during and after the work out. I calculate thatin a 1hour 30 spin session (45 minutes class plus an additional 45 minutes hard on my own before the class I burn approx 1800 calories.

I go for 500 cals each 30 min session on the stationary bike and it is definitely a feeling of achievement.  I do interval work so the workout takes longer as boredom can set in.  Its great nonetheless.

I'm a certified Spinning Instructor in New Jersey and I can guarantee anyone who takes my class on the regular and puts forth the effort and I do mean puts forth the effort will routinely burn over a 1,000 calories in my class! Additionally, the music I use may remind you of ' happy hour ' thereby relieving your mind of the challenges my class parcipitates!...Jim

Hello! The calories you burn while exercising in a short time, depends of your physical condition. I love spinning! It is a wonderful, fun and pretty complete thing to practice. If you are totally dedicated to the class, you could burn minimum 500-700 Calories in 30-45 minutes, and over 1000 calories in 90 minutes. My advice is to get music like electronic to follow its time. Now, if you have an instructor in the gym, follow the best you can his/her beat, because he/she tells you how to spin in time to the music. Some people go too slow or without enough intensity. Most of the instructor that I had before used to say that they are like a mirror: his left leg is your right leg and all you have to do is to pedal as fast or slow as he/she does, in that way you can have an excellent work out. It takes a while, but helps a lot. And do not forget the technique!

I have been spinning for about two months now and I am happy to say that i have lost about 20lbs. I am totally dedicated to the class and I go everyday. I tried other routines and nothing was as effective as spinning. Keep in mind though that I follow my instructur and I have a high tolerance level. I go all out in every class. I always make every secound count. I hope that in a few more months I will be in my ideal weight.
