For maintenance, and to help prevent damage to your acrylic glazing (or Plexiglas® -- the more commonly known trade name), follow these hints and tips for framing and handling.
- Both sides of the acrylic have a protective masking of polyethylene film.
- Do not remove this protective masking until you are ready to insert in frame. Never slide panels over each other, a table, or other flat surfaces. This can remove the masking and expose the finished surface to damage, such as scratching.
- Try to always handle the acrylic by the edges or wear clean, soft cotton gloves.
- When you are ready to insert the sheet into the frame, it is recommended to peel the protective masking from only the edges of the side that will face out. Remove the rest after the frame is completed.
- Once the acrylic is fitted in the frame, remove all the masking from the side that goes up against the subject or mat.
- To remove any finger prints and to eliminate static buildup, use a weak solution of liquid dish washing detergent and warm water. Wipe the area gently with a soft, lint-free cloth. Allow the surface to air dry completely.
- After the frame is finished, complete the removal of the protective sheet from the front.
- Never use Ammonia Turpentine based cleaners, or abrasive cleaners.
- If cleaning is required after the frame is in use, wash only as above. Special cleaning fluids, cloths and anti-static materials can be purchased locally.
