Have you ever experienced a time when your car broke down because it never had maintenance done on it? It was just one of those things in the back of your mind that you thought you'd get to, but never did. While the car is in the shop, you had to worry about how to get to work and run errands. Along with these issues, comes the stress of paying a pricey invoice to fix the vehicle.

Just like a vehicle, scanners need routine maintenance as well. For instance, by scheduling this service for your Canon or Xerox , it enhances productivity and performance in the workplace. No one wants to worry about a non-functioning scanner when it's relied on heavily during their daily routine.

Some companies offer discounts for purchasing a scanner maintenance plan along with their products. Discounts on labor and parts make a huge impact in the long run. In certain cases, a replacement product is sent. Why wouldn't you want to protect your investment and keep your business running smoothly?

There's nothing more frustrating than having to explain the same problem to numerous support technicians. But a nice element that puts icing on the cake is having a designated support technician. It's great customer service at your fingertips. Be sure to find out how claims are dealt when looking into maintenance support.

Keeping your scanner clean is a major factor in ensuring your images remain at the highest quality. Scannersolutions.com has compiled some basic do's and don'ts for keeping your scanner in tip-top shape.

Clean your scanner on a regular basis.

In order to maintain peak scanning quality, you should clean your scanner every week.

Never use paint thinner, alcohol, or other organic solvents to clean the scanner.

Such solvents can damage or discolor the exterior of the scanner. They also create a risk of fire and electric shock.

Cleaning scanner exterior

To clean the exterior of the scanner, dampen a cloth with water or a mild detergent, wring the cloth out thoroughly, and then wipe the dirt away. Then use a dry cloth to wipe away any moisture.

Staples: do not scan!

Running staples through your scanner can cause serious damage to reading units and other vital electronic components of the machine. Make sure to check your documents and prepare them for scanning by removing any staples, paper clips, or other sharp items prior to scanning.

Dust and particles inside the scanner can cause lines in scanned images.

Use canned air regularly to remove dust and paper particles from inside the scanner. After finishing a large scanning job, you should turn OFF the scanner and then clean any paper particles that are remaining.

Paper jams and double-feeding

If paper jams or double-feed (feeding of two or more document pages) occurs frequently in spite of your having cleaned the rollers, a probable cause is roller friction. If this is the case, replace the rollers.
