As technology advances and personal data becomes more and more valuable for target advertising as well identity theft, it is important to take measures and keep your private information safe.

There is much internet privacy software available on the market and all of them have slightly different features. It's important to identify what kind of risks one is likely to face and choose the best internet privacy software based on these needs.

If you're worried about your data being accessible to and stored on the websites that you visit, your worry is certainly not baseless. Websites you visit store not only the details of your connection, but you would be surprised as to how much of your browsing and other personal data is accessible to these websites. This information and logging is based on your machine's IP address. Internet protocol address is a unique code associated with each machine and can be used to track browsing history and saved personal data. The IP address is linked to your internet service provider account and therefore can be easily traced back to you.

To avoid this, it is possible to conduct all your online activities through a proxy server. Many internet privacy programmes offer this option. When you're surfing through a proxy server, your IP address is not logged on to the web server thus protecting your privacy. However, there are potential risks in this process. Even though your IP address is not logged onto the web server, your session is still logged onto the proxy that you use. It is important to make sure that the software you select uses private and secure proxies. Free proxies available on the internet are often run by cyber criminals and to go with any software using these is a very bad idea.

Sometimes, say in the workplace, you may be sharing a computer with others. In this situation, you may be looking to protect your private data on the computer. For a simple need such as this, the solution lies in most web browsers. Web browsers now offer options to clear all your browsing and private data. You can delete browsing history, cookies and other logged records.

It is possible to simply clear your browsing data from your machine, but is it really deleted from the records stored on your internet service provider's account? The answer is, no. Information is collected and legally stored for up to two years in Europe.   The reason for this is claimed to be for judiciary and investigatory purposes. This information is meant to be secure, but is it really secure? Growing amount of cyber crimes, identity thefts, and unethical abuse of private data for profit, has only proven that it is unwise to take cyber security lightly.

With the help of more advanced internet privacy software, it is possible to make this stored information inaccessible and protect your private data from possible third party use. Such software encrypts your connection and makes it virtually unreadable by anyone. It employs private proxies and encrypts your connection, making your connection totally safe.
