Used aircraft parts are a way to economize maintaining or upgrading your present aircraft. Many of us also opt for used aircraft parts on their homebuilt style kitplanes. Many have found over the years that not only can you get a used Lycoming engine or a used avionics system, you can also get airframe parts and even landing gear.

There are some reasons to purchase used aircraft parts over new. Price is the clear concern first. When looking at replacing the engine on your Cessna or Piper, or when choosing one for your Vans Airforce RV-7, RV-8, or RV-10, you may find that by getting a used Lycoming engine you are able to save up to $15,000 or more!! When faced with these prospects many of us just can't pass up the savings they find in used aircraft parts.

The second reason is availability. The factory may not have any of the part you are looking for in the year you are looking for. When this occurs, you are forced to look elsewhere to find the necessary part. I think the general public will go about checking a salvage company or the likes for used aircraft parts if they are first unable to get it from the maker, but often times it is a secondary source. I'm here to tell you, more often than not, this is going to be your first source of parts for your aircraft. Whether or not you are flying the tried and true Cessna 172, or a Piper Cherokee, you'll see savings and you may almost always be able to find a used aircraft part for the right make and model.

Because of these 2 reasons you may find it very helpful to use a company like Wentworth Aircraft for your used aircraft parts shopping thanks to the size of the outfit. There are some others out there but Wentworth is the biggest and in my book that implies they did something right.
