Au pair Selection Advice

Trying to find an au pair, finding the 'right fit' for your family is such a daunting task. Parents need to do their due dilligence, need to 'do their homework' when it comes to matching with an au pair.

Here is a brief overview of the important components for screening and matching:

1. the phone interview

2. evaluating au pair's application

3. evaluating "Dear Host Family" letter and photo collage

4. setting expectations during matching process

Important components of setting up and maintaining a strong host family / au pair relationship are:

1. preparing an AU PAIR handbook/manual,

2. preparing weekly schedule every weekend

3. list of kids' activities, play, games

4. list of rules for au pair and children

5. list of child-related chores

6. list of other chores concerning the common areas of the house
