Vaginismus - Is my vagina the normal size, and if it's not should I be concerned? No woman should worry about the size of her vagina full stop. Having said that, should it be infected by disease then you have every right to worry if it is interfering with your lifestyle and making you ill.
The vagina is an independent organ of the human body that needs nothing more than soap and water to keep it fresh. It also cleans itself daily. Primary problems you should be wary of are vaginal infections, and not size. Depending on the infection and severity most infections are normally harmless and treatable.
Sometimes, no matter what women read or hear is never enough to stop them thinking their vagina is big and loose, or small and tight? And will look for ways to correct what they see is wrong or abnormal whether it's true or not about the size. In most cases correction was totally unnecessary.
Every vagina is the same in structure but may differ in some way or another in comparison to the next woman's. Things like the color of pubic hair, or its look in general where it appears smaller or bigger from a head on view. This can be down to the size of the woman herself. Just because a woman is overweight and her vagina appears to be somewhat big to look at it does not mean the vaginal opening is large
Unless there's a problem with vaginal tightness (Vaginismus) or extreme looseness then leave the vagina alone.
What is considered a normal sized vagina? There is no definite answer that can be given due to several factors. I'm a strong believer in; if the vagina is healthy then that is the most important thing you should worry about before fretting over its size. Specific treatments linked with a loose vagina or tight one you may identify as similar to the treatments usually recommended for keeping the vagina healthy. Based on this, look for ways to achieve vaginal health then you're protecting the vagina from conditions.
Is there such a thing as an abnormal vagina? Yes and No, abnormal is an ugly word and one used by medics when they detect something different, so I prefer to refer to it as being different because it sounds less scary and less threatening.
About Vaginal Size
When the vagina is relaxed the surrounding vaginal walls collapse into each other. Diameter is less than 1 inch and the length about 3 to 4 inches. Size of the vagina can fluctuate at times. Usual instance is around the time of sexual intercourse when the vagina gets ready for penal entry. During sex its diameter changes and is not the same throughout the tunnel. The thinnest part of the vagina is the opening which expands the further in you go. As a rule the vagina has a size of one and a half inches. Near to the back the diameter is typically 2 1/2 inchesand the front wall is 2 inches and the rear end is 3 inches.
What causes vaginal looseness, there can be a number of reasons but the one most likely responsible is childbirth. When a woman delivers a baby the vagina suffers but not serious enough to damage it, but if it is subjected to severe straining caused by immense expansion, and the vagina is stretched more than anticipated then we see damage of vaginal muscles and other supporting tissues..It is not only pregnant women that have the problem; girls in their 20s even suffer vaginal looseness.. Not all women are affected by this so don't go turning celibate there is no need. If you have been unfortunate, and in childbirth your vagina has stretched you could consider Kegel exercises.
Most common issue deriving from a big vagina is unsatisfactory sex. If the vaginal 'barrel' is exceptionally large it can prevent good sex happening due to no friction.
About Vaginismus
Vaginismus (vaginal tightness) is a condition which causes sexual intercourse to become a complicated concern. The female who suffers with the disease can't allow the penis to enter the vagina. The inability to permit penetration for intercourse is the main symptom of Vaginismus. Usually, the vaginal sphincter keeps the vagina closed until (sexual stimulation) the need to widen and relax. If this is achieved (relaxation) it allows sexual intercourse, childbirth, internal examination and insertion of tampons. These are typical signs that prove vaginismus happens when the vagina is not relaxed. When vaginismus does arise, the sphincter goes into spasm resulting in the tightening of the vagina.
Cause of Vaginismus
The cause of vaginismus is often the outcome of an aversive stimulus linked with penetration. Some of the most regular aversive stimuli are harrowing sexual assaults, agonizing intercourse, and painful pelvic exam. Nonetheless it's a condition that can also occur without previous bad experiences and sexual ordeals. Women diagnosed with vaginismus are not frigid, in fact quite the opposite which makes the whole matter much more serious for them who enjoy actual "intercourse." Even though they can reach a climax (orgasm) through clitoral stimulation, women feel they are missing out on the real deal.
Treatment for Vaginismus
Most treatments for any type of condition will most likely vary for each person because of several issues which will include the two primary i.e. severity of the condition, and the actual overall health of the individual. With Vaginismus you won't have oral pessaries or vaginal creams prescribed like you would for treating vaginal infections. Vaginismus treatment includes following a therapy program run by an expert (sex therapist.)The patient is asked to participate in vaginal dilation exercises using plastic dilators. It is vital in therapy sessions that the use of dilators proceeds in a methodical progression under the guidance of a sex therapist, and should actively involve the woman's sexual partner. Because vaginismus affects both the man and woman it's important that both people attend .the classes
Some men will make up any excuse not to go. This is not good if the problem is to be sorted. The usual lame excuse which is inexcusable is when they say things like "it's her with the big vagina, not me." Hey hold up you, have a little compassion. Your partner is suffering enough without you further adding to her problems. If you want sex at its best then you need to support each other. Yes you may well be scared, or embarrassed, but c'mon if you want results it's' got to be done. The treatment is important if your sex life is ever going to be satisfying again.
More into the therapy program, and the sex therapist sees you are settling in and comfortable with what's going on he/she will then gently coax you to be more intimate with each other (touching and feeling) eventually leading up to pain free sexual intercourse. Sex education is essential to counter sexual naivety and dismiss any half truths which have been recognized as a reason in 90% of vaginismus patients. Education should include sexual anatomy, physiology, the sexual response cycle, and common traditions about sex in general. The sex therapist running the program at no time will ask you to do anything you're not comfortable with.
Loose Vagina Treatment
Lots of women do pelvic floor muscle exercises to help strengthen particular vaginal weaknesses. They are effective and can be done at home so no need to join a gym. Try tensing the muscles at the front of the lower part of your body as if you were stopping yourself from urinating and hold for 15 seconds then relax, repeat for approx 5 minutes. Try and do this 4 or 5 times daily which you may find helpful.
If the pelvic floor exercises are not helping and the vagina still feels extremely slack then there's the option of surgery. Nonetheless this should always be the last option. There are the risks, pain and discomfort to consider before opting for cosmetic surgery.
Speak to a gynecologist to discuss what is included and of any dangers you face if you opt for a 'repair' operation. Repair surgery involves drawing the weakened pelvic tissues together and firming them.
Did you know when you treat your own vaginal infection you rid vaginal odour at the same time.
