Information and press releases abound relating to the proposed opening of a Disneyland resort in the touristic region of Turkey's Izmir district. Having graced the front pages of several local Turkish and English language dailies, the possibility of the theme park will bring extensive benefits to the country's tourism.

Even those who have no interest in visiting a park willed with life sized cartoon characters and over excited children, cannot deny the appeal of the Disney brand for attracting clients to increase hotel occupancy and self catering buy-to-let accommodation.

Looking into the World Tourism Organisation statistics, Turkey has remained in the top 10 destinations for tourism for several years running. Combined with Disney, accounting for 4 of the top 10 most visited world attractions; the potential for the Izmir theme park is phenomenal. Theme parks tend to appeal to a greater percentage of popularity for family holidays, with world attractions such as the Giza pyramids and the Taj Majal surprisingly down near the 50 th most visited.

While there is no lack of press relating to the authorisation of the plans for the Disneyland project in Izmir, the variation of the available information tends to be rather limited. If taking the details already reported for fact, the Turkish Disneyland project is set to rival that of Paris.

Reported to be a US$3.2 billion project, employing 17,000 staff members, the large scale project has apparently been granted all permissions from the Turkish authorities. The report of all the permission being granted in only 3 days does tend to lead to thoughts of scepticism, especially being such a rapid pace from the Turkish authorities.

Considering the tourism and growth potential of the immediate region and Turkey as a whole, such a fast approval from a world renowned brand may not be as unusual as it first appears. Reported to be constructed near a new exclusive marina, with several luxury hotels to be incorporated, the immediate attractions of Disneyland Turkey is evident in comparison with Disneyland Paris.

The year round touristic attraction of the Turkish weather, culture and stunning scenery is fast gaining popularity amongst self catering holiday makers and property investors. The country is already set to boom with the imminent entry to the EU, the low property prices and fast increasing tourism. With the addition of a Disneyland theme park, the Turkish real estate market will never be the same again.
