This is ideal for students who listen to music while studying or anyone who is travelling on a bus or airplane. This also lets you listen to your music at a reduced volume level. When using regular earbuds outdoors, most people need to crank the volume just to be able to drown out the outside noise. Not good for your ears! Canal phones let you listen to your music in noisy environments at a much lower and safer volume level.
If you don't like IEM's, replacement earbuds will still offer a huge improvement over your stock ones. Earbuds are inexpensive and can be found in any electronics store.
The best way to try out different earphones is to ask your friends. See if they will let you try out theirs. The next best way to find a good pair is to read online reviews. Shopping sites such as Amazon have user reviews for every product that they sell. This is a great way to get personal opinions from people who have actually purchased and used the headphones that you are interested in.
When purchasing make sure you ask the store what their return policy is. Some stores won't let you return earbuds while others will. If you buy a pair and they don't fit properly or hurt your ears, it's great to be able to return them and try a different model.
