Some treatments involve prescription drugs and can be quite effective, however there is an increasing trend for many people to seek an alternative to prescription medication, many people desire to treat their hair loss naturally.

If you suffer from baldness or any loss of hair it's a good idea to consult your doctor. There are several reason for doing this. He may advise a treatment which may help with the problem, it is possible that your hair loss is indicative of some other illness which you may have and the doctor may determine this and treat that illness. Certain drugs can result in hair loss, if your doctor has prescribed such a medication for some other illness you could discuss this with him or her. The side effects of drugs can be determined online and if your existing medication seems to have loss of hair as a possible side effect consult your doctor about this. Your baldness may be due to some other cause, and most likely will be. Warning do not stop taking prescription medication without discussing the situation with your doctor first, if you do so you may seriously endanger your health.

Saw Palmetto is an example of a natural cure for hair loss and baldness. DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) is a hormone produced when the male hormone testosterone interacts with an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. Now DHT can be a cause of hair loss and there is some evidence that Saw Palmetto interacts to reduce levels of DHT consequently reducing a prime cause of baldness.

Some other natural methods to treat baldness are based on massaging oils into the scalp. Olive or almond oil can be used. Usually the oil is pre-warmed by placing the container of oil in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes. The hair is first wetted and then the oil is massaged into the scalp and then the hair is covered with a towel for half an hour and then the oil is showered off.

There are several different types of shampoo, which manufacturers claim, can help to treat baldness and general loss of hair. Some of these have all natural ingredient. Shampoos based on Aloe Vera can be advantageous. Some shampoos and conditioners designed for hair loss coat remaining hairs to give them a fuller appearance; one of the substances used in shampoos and conditioners for this purpose is silicone.

As mentioned earlier there are a wide variety of treatments available. Some of these are very effective, some less so and some are pretty useless. Anyone wishing to seek information on how to treat baldness must understand the above, and realise that a treatment type that works for some people may not necessarily work for others. There are some treatments however, which have a greater degree of success, over a wider range of individuals when compared to other treatments.

There is a reason why many people loose hair, which is not widely known or discussed. Find out what this "secret" is, and how by using this knowledge you may be able to treat baldness successfully and solve your own hair loss problem. Please visit my blog for more information.

Greg, great article. Since I am bald like a cue ball, I have just learned to accept it and allowed other serious issues to enter my life. JP
