Puerto Pollensa in the north-east of Majorca has evolved from traditional fishing village to busy tourist resort with everything for the family, whilst managing to retain it's charm. The crescent shaped bay is set against an impressive backdrop of the 'Tramuntana' mountains and is lined with many restaurants, bars and cafes. These restaurants offer a great choice of international cuisine, with many including variations on the 'catch of the day.'

The wide Bay of Pollensa stretches for three kilometres and is where you can try many watersports including sailing, windsurfing, water skiing or scuba diving. The shallow bay has some of the cleanest and best sand on the island making it so popular with families. A pedestrianised promenade runs alongside the beach.

Albercutx (also referred to as 'Voramar') is Pollensa's second beach but is much smaller than the main bay. It runs north from the Marina alongside the 'Pine Walk' which is really very pleasant.

On balmy evenings take a stroll round the yachts, along the beach and 'Pine Walk' as far as the luxurious 'Illa D'Or hotel'.

Golf is also available as is cycling and birdwatching. There are plenty of cycle rental outlets in Puerto Pollensa, all with a great choice of bikes for all the family. The terrain around the bay is flat and easily explored, or you can venture up into the mountains to work up more of a sweat. Bird watching is popular locally, with wildlife especially prevalent on the nearby Formentor peninsula. The 9-hole Pollensa Golf offers panoramic views of the mountains, olive groves and bays of Pollensa and Alcudia.

Every year in July and August Pollensa has a lively festival with a mixture of classical concerts. Past festivals have included performances by the London Symphony Orchestra, and in 2004 guest artists included Dame Felicity Lott (Soprano) and Boris Berezovsky on the piano. Advanced booking is highly recommended as this is a most popular festival in Mallorca.

Five kilometres west lies the historic old town of Pollensa. It has 2 wonderful churches, 'Nostra Senora del Roser' and 'Nostra Senora dels Angels.' One of the most popular attractions is the 'Via Crucis,' a walk of 365 stone steps leading to the 'Calvari' chapel on top of the hill which houses a Gothic statue of Christ. The main square is very busy with many cafes and bars providing a great time-out from the midday sun.Although largely untouched, it has become a great shopping centre and is particularly busy on Sundays thanks to the weekly market.
