Do you want to reduce the swelling that's causing your puffy eyes but worried you may use the wrong product and worsen the condition, or is it expense that's the issue where you've spent so much money in the past, and lost faith in ever reducing the puffiness because of the worthless products you purchased that failed to mend the problem. A major concern when it comes to treating puffy eyes is, the vast majority of men and women prefer the natural approach before using cream, ointment or lotions made up in laboratories. Depending on the reason for puffy eyes most eye conditions like dark circles, saggy skin and bags under the eyes can be treated at home using natural solutions thus avoiding the types of products they don't care for.

If you want to successfully cure you're puffy eyes then you'll need to know what may have caused the puffiness in the first place. Puffy eyes can be the result of many things, however it's a matter of finding the right thing that will determine the type of treatment, medication or method to practice to reduce swelling, soothe irritation, and pain in some cases.

What causes puffiness?  If it's not caused by the most common i.e. lack of sleep which the remedy would be to get more of it, then you may have an eye condition that your GP will need to look at. In saying this not all eye conditions will need the doctor to treat it but it certainly would be a good idea for him/her to confirm what you have.

If the skin under the eyes appears swollen it can be the outcome of an allergy, or due to skin conditions and one to name is dermatitis. Also, climate change, or if hormone levels are all messed up it can contribute to this area filling up with fluid which will cause puffy eyes.

To help prevent and reduce eye puffiness you could start by using a pillow or adding an extra one to sleep on. If the head is slightly elevated it will limit the amount of fluid from flooding and filling up around the eyes.

Dab cold water directly on the swollen puffed up skin using a compress

Place chilled slices of cucumber, potato, gel mask or cold tea bags over the eyes. These are favorable options for refreshing tired eyes. If you have an eye infection then the above eye treatments are a complete waste of time, and you must see a doctor in case antibiotics are needed.

A common eye infection is conjunctivitis, which is inflammation of the conjunctiva which is known to cause dilatation of the conjunctival blood vessels. The eyes tend to turn red due to this; Inflammation might be restricted to the conjunctiva (primary conjunctivitis) or secondary to diseases which affect other parts like Iiritis." Conjunctivae are the mucous membranes which swathe the white of the eyes and the inner side of the eyelids. Usually both eyes are affected; however it may affect only one and spread to the other, and it's not rare to see one eye suffer more than the other

Things you can do to treat and help prevent conjunctivitis symptoms?

  • Wash your hands after touching your eyes
  • Keep one face flannel or towel for your own personal use, and don't share with others.
  • Avoid rubbing infected eyes
  • Remove crusted discharge with warm salt water
  • Use soft tissue to gently dab the eyes dry and discard immediately so germs can't be spread. Most cases of conjunctivitis are a result of being contaminated by a sufferer.
  • Throw away all empty antibiotic eye drop containers

If you have heard the term Pink eye and unsure what it is, then it's also known as conjunctivitis,

No matter where you look for advice on treating tired eyes or puffy eyes there's every possibility all the information on remedies is the same. There are no wonder creams or magical solutions, so it's in your best interest to look for ways in preventing eye problems so you don't have to read the same thing over.

Healthy Eyes

  • See an optician regular to have your eyes checked
  • Don't wear cheap contact lenses, quality ones are best
  • Wear sunglasses in sunlight
  • Eat a well balanced diet
  • Dim lighting is not good for your eyes when reading, it puts to much strain on them
  • Rest your eyes often

About skin

Wouldn't it be great if our baby skin stayed with us as we got older then no more paying through the nose to try and get back what was naturally ours at birth? With age skin gets looser and thinner for many reasons. Two to name are the progressive impairment of the skin's aptitude to restore structural elements, such as collagen and elastin and the reduction of the fundamental fat layers that give volume and support to the skin. Although this is a natural process, too much exposure of the skin to sunlight, not enough water intake, tobacco, poor diet, insufficient sleep and stress can contribute to premature skin ageing and wrinkles.

One issue likely to derive from skin ageing is puffy eyes, baggy eyes, dark cycles, fine lines and wrinkles.

Puffy eyes

Loose skin is a typical cause for puffiness. Usually when you lie flat on your back the fluid we spoke about earlier in the head increase. If the skin around the eyes is not strong enough to protect itself against the high internal pressure, it swells leaving the eyes to appear puffy. Although Dermatitis and allergies were mentioned earlier also there are other causes that can be responsible for water retention causing puffy eyes, like suffering from high blood pressure, dehydration, thyroid or renal disorders, and taking particular medicines.

Puffy eyes on a young person will have them look older than what they are and very much noticed by others, but with old people it's a condition ignored by others, because they assume it to be natural for eyes to puff up over time. Yes this is true, but if it is an infection or other then it's not natural at all and needs treating regardless of age. Puffy eyes can interfere with your sight (blurry vision,) and cause itching.

Other measures you can take to prevent or help reduce puffy eyes:
  • Reduce salt intake.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Remove contact lenses before going to sleep.
Baggy eyes

Baggy eyes are normally the outcome of fat build up underneath the skin in the area under the bottom eyelid. This happens because the septum enveloping the eye socket tends to weaken and allows part of the fat contained in the orbital area around the eyeball to pass through and accumulate in a bottom position, hence swelling under the eyes, and similar looking to small pockets.

Dark Circles

If you're more concerned about dark circles then reason for this is duly caused by a rise in melanin; which is a type of matter that gives the distinctive skin pigmentation. Dark circles forming round the eyes might be a result of progressive skin thinning which, in turn, makes the blood vessels below more obvious with their darker color. If your puffy eyes after catching up with sleep and trying particular medications are not getting better, and still look severely swollen then see your GP.

If you want to see where you're going in years to come then you must protect your eyes and keep them healthy.
