Till now you may have heard it many times that eating vegetables is a good dietary habit for our body. I have heard it many times already and the result of a recent study has proved the necessity of eating vegetables once again.

A group of scientists in an international collaborative study have found a relationship between the dietary vegetable protein and BP (Blood Pressure) of individuals. This study was conducted among 4680 people who were randomly selected from U.S.A, U.K, China and Japan. Their ages were in between 40 and 59. The study showed that dietary glutamic acid (one kind of amino acid) is associated with lower BP. Vegetable proteins contain a richer amount of glutamic acid and this indicates the inverse relation between vegetable intake and lowering of blood pressure. The result showed that, 5% of higher intake of glutamic acid as a percent of total protein in your diet will lower the BP.

Vegetable sources of Glutamic acid: Beans, whole grains and tofu, pasta.

Well I should tell you about another research which reveals the relationship between eating vegetables and the lowering of BP. A group of researchers conducted a research known as DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Trial, which indicated that a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables and low fat dairy foods significantly lowers BP.There were 459 participants in the trial.

But why we need to prevent high blood pressure?

Some of the major risks and problems associated with high BP are:

  •    Stroke
  •    Heart Attack
  •    Frequent headaches
  •    Damages to kidney

High blood pressure is a silent killer. You may not know that you have higher BP. You can measure your BP  your self or you can get it measured by medical personnel. The point is you have to measure it. Without measuring you can not be sure if your blood pressure is higher than the normal range.

So, if you don't have any special problem to eat vegetables then eat them as regular as you can. Try to make it a habit of eating vegetables everyday. They are your natural weapon against high blood pressure. Don't let it kill your happiness and good health. Instead attack it going one step ahead.
