In these troubled economic times everyone wants to hang on to the money that they have. This article will show you how you can save some of your hard earned money.

Stop The Credit Insanity

Don't get another card! Like most people you probably already have more than enough. No matter what the special offer is, don't sign up for any new ones. You need to start taking care of the credit cards that you already have and pay them down. Pay off whatever you charge on the card at the end of the month. If you manage to bring a card's balance down to zero, think about cutting it up. You can't rack up your credit if you don't have any cards to use. Stick to cash instead. It's a great way to force you to only spend the money that you do have. It's a method that's been used for years and works very well.

Reduce Your Interest

Instead of paying just the minimum amount, try to increase your payment each month. Just adding an extra $50 can make a huge difference in the amount of interest that you'll end up paying over time. You'll also pay off the debt much faster than just making the minimum payment each month.

Don't Buy Stuff You Can't Afford

Overly simple advice? So many people don't follow this basic rule. If you're thinking about a big purchase such as a new TV or car, remember that you probably don't need it.

Start Cooking

Eating out in restaurants is a huge money pit. Sure it can be nice to go out for a meal with friends every so often, just don't do it every single night of the week. Restaurant food is hugely marked up. Cooking your own meals and packing your own lunches can save you hundreds of dollars every single month. Take some of that money you'll save and invest in some good cookbooks.

These tips can really add up and save you some huge money in the long run. Good luck!
