Build Quality: The most arresting feature of the UE55B7020 is that it could be described as the supermodel of Televisions, being especially thin. In reality it is in the order of 29mm in depth. And Samsung hasn't cheated, nothing like several other manufacturers, by moving some of the inner components to a separate joined box. It has a shiny finish, together with a conspicuous slim see-through stem, connecting the screen to its support.
Audio Performance: As with numerous flat screen Televisions the sound quality of the UE55B7020 is only average. The UE55B7020 is too slim to allow a sufficient sound system. Look to connecting it to a separate audio system to get reasonable sound to hope to complement the picture quality.
Picture Quality: The unique promotion point of the UE55B7020 is the fact that it uses LED technology to take the place of the usual fluorescent tube backlighting method found in other Televisions. What a number of reviewers haven't understood is that the display itself still uses tried and tested LCD technology. The advantages of LEDs as opposed to fluorescent tubes are:
* This technology gives a much more steady backlight across the Television, as it uses a lattice structure.
* As the LEDs are entirely controllable and can easily be wholly turned off, they can generate faultless blacks.
* Sports and other fast moving action look better as the television responds faster.
* Other colours can be displayed.
Connections: The UE55B7020 comes with four HDMI, two USB, and one LAN port - all most of us are likely to call for for a lot of years at least. The LAN one allows the UE55B7020 to access files on your PC set-up that you might wish to draw on. And the USB connections allow many file formats to be played when a USB stick is inserted. As well as permitting a wireless link to your home network - a separate dongle is required for this.
The chief remote control is a rather bizarrely created gadget, a tad resembling a shoehorn. A little awkward to employ at first, but OK after you're used to it. The second, smaller remote simply allows volume power and channel changes.
Expense in use: The UE55B7020 consumes around 115W in use - well below the customary requirement. Less than a watt on stand by.
Summing up: Although the audio performance of the UE55B7020 is not up to the mark, it outperforms its competitors, with alive colours and black blacks. The finest screen quality in its class.
