Ice Hockey is one of the most demanding sports out there. Hockey players are known (sometimes notorious) for toughness out on the ice. Maybe hockey has a history of fighting because it requires such toughness just to be a hockey player, these are naturally the type of guys who like to fight. You have to have the stamina to be able to skate constantly throughout the game, handle the puck well with lots of dexterity, and unleash explosive power shots in order to score. Hockey makes so many demands on your body, it is important to look into the proper nutrition to fuel your peak performance. There are a lot of nutrition tips out there for hockey players, here are a few that actually work.

Healthy habits in diet and nutrition are irreplaceable. You can't hope to give your body the fuel that you need if you don't eat a large amount of different kinds of vegetables and fruits every day. You can't neglect whole grains either, or sources of lean protein. These all combine to help your body prepare against all of the abuse that you will put it through out on the ice. If your body isn't used to being taken care of off the ice, you don't have much hope of lasting through the match on the ice.

Once you have good eating habits in place, you can think about supplementing your diet with other nutritional elements. Multivitamins are generally supplements that can benefit everybody. If you take one every day, you'll make sure you have all the bases covered in terms of the necessary vitamins and minerals to perform well. You'll be surprised how this small habit can make serious changes in the way you feel on the ice.

For each position in hockey, there are different demands on your muscles. Defensemen have to have lots of endurance, while centre forwards or wing forwards often need to display lots of speed and dexterity throughout the match. No matter what position you play, ice hockey will require plenty of bursts of energy from your muscles. You should look into creatine supplements if you want to improve this part of your game.

If you are a serious athlete, you have probably heard about creatine. Ever since it became a mainstream part of professional sports in the early 90s it has given athletes from all different disciplines a distinct edge over the competition. The truth about creatine is, if you're not using it, your opponent probably is, so you better be prepared. It is a natural amino acid, which basically means it is the fuel for your muscles. When you use your muscles repeatedly in quick contractions creatine is usually depleted quickly unless you do something to replenish the supply. If you simply take about 15 grams of creatine per day, you'll ensure that your body won't be lacking in this essential fuel.

Be tough out on the ice. Don't let your guard down when you're off the ice. If you don't pay attention to your nutrition habits before you compete, you'll never be able to perform to the best of your ability when get on the ice.
