How to Negotiate

How to Gain Success through Negotiating

Dr. Phil - "Negotiation really begins before you even engage the seller or the other partner,"

Nearly everything is negotiable; however someone has to win.

First of all you need to find out who needs who more; if you are in need of whatever it is you are negotiating for more than they are, how can you give yourself an edge?

Is your deal good enough for the other party to negotiate for; are they even in any need of anything you are offering at all?

First of all you need to work out your worthy opponents, and then you can develop your negotiation skills.

Negotiation Skills

How-to-negotiate.com If people can't communicate they cannot possibly get along together much less negotiate' Only if you wield brute strength over the other person should you invoke fear to control the situation.'

Make sure you know what you want, and then ask for it with no fear!

Self-Confidence is the most important winning aspect of walking into a deal.

Don't worry though, even the most skilled negotiators will feel uncomfortable when negotiating; the only difference is that a skilled negotiator has learned to recognize these nervous outward signs and be able to hide them.

Understanding exactly what it is that you are asking for can give you the confidence you need to walk into a deal. Asking for more than you want can also create tactical strength for your negotiation; focus on breaking the negotiation down step by step to the level you want, therefore you are leading the other person into thinking they are winning.

One tactic for this is simply asking questions on what they have to offer and focusing the deal on their part. It's amazing how much the other party would do for you just from asking - Is that your best offer?'

Prepare to Negotiate

Peter Barron quotes When someone makes you an offer you think could be improved, you simply respond, "That's Not Good Enough."'

If you are not happy with the best you can achieve from the end result of the negotiation; don't make the deal!

This could either mean you have lost the negotiation or it is to difficult/impossible that you will achieve what you want; if this is the case then walk away from the deal!

Losing a negotiation has no loss unless you accept; only the winning has gain which makes learning how to negotiate a very interesting skill.

I recently had to stand up in front of many and negotiate for myself. I wish I had this article to help me then.
