Emotional attachment to external "feel-good" things is an implication of being a modern day human.. not who we are but that we are human - it goes with the species.....

Dogs bark, cows moo and humans store pain...

As we go through life in a society geared to not who we are but how others perceive us, we absorb the knocks and scrapes, gradually integrating pain and dissapointment into mental and emotional memory.. And don't those memories just LOVE to remember the bad things huh...much better than they do the good ones...

In training for life we're taught to speak the language, calculate the change from our groceries, drive cars, to cook wash clean and support ourselves in the world. We're even taught some aspects of what medicine calls psychology to try to understand ourselves and others at a thought or behavioral level...

However what we aren't taught about is the one thing that drives all human action more powerfully than anything else...and thats emotions..

Strange isn't it that the things that cause so much human happiness and so much human tragedy are left as somewhat mysterious...or consigned to be analyzed at a thought or behavior level..

The problem here is that emotions don't exist on the physical level, there's no emotional gadget we can attach to you to see whats happening because emotions are energies on the energy plane ( often referred to as the spiritual plane ).

(If anyone doubts that - we do know this is the case because we can change emotions very easily using energy work and it has a long and illustrious history of repeated results and so the evidence is very well founded...)

Medicine can see chemical changes in the brain and rest of the body as we react to emotions but as of yet theres no physical heart chakra monitor can sense your energy..only another living being can do that...

We know we can't change emotions with thought, and we can't drug them or cut them out and throw them away..

So all in all the mechanisms of emotion aren't really generally understood and so instead we ( society ) contain them within over simplistic mental constructs ( for example ) a whole bunch of emotions like need, compassion, like, want, passion and so many other things are labelled singly ( and incorrectly ) as "love"..

So how are we taught to process emotions ?

by thinking about them...

Friends won't say "come on sit with it and cry it out", they'll use mental constructs like "it's his loss" or "move on" or other thought constructs all guaranteed to stop full release of the emotional effects of a situation...

And thus we stored another one we really didn't want or need to...

Dogs bark, cows moo and humans store pain....

Often we THINK we reconciled emotions using thought processes ( the ego tells us this is reasoning ) as we decide to detach from awareness of an emotion, or to create attachments to constructs, ideas, people or things to whom we attach a different emotion..

And its exactly through these processes that we store more residual unreleased pain and increase our attachment to people, situations and things to which we find an opposite emotion, albeit it often a very temporary one.

Everything from spending too much in the stores, eating too much. all the way through alcohol or cigarettes to drugs..

And it doesn't stop at just chemicals, Reassurance, emotional co-dependence and other structures often go from being the prop to becoming the addiction..

The person, relationship, the job, tomorrow, "when it all comes good", all constructs of the future or something outside of self becoming the pain-healing elixir.....

Once we realize that its the nature of being human, particularly a modern human living in high tech modern society that allows ( ensures ) this process to happen, and that it happens to all humans at some time ( Dogs bark, cows moo and humans store pain ... ) then we can realize its not who we are but how we become as part of conditioning and training...

And guess where those things can become especially so much of a problem....and thats under the banner of spirituality...

The BIG question in following any spiritual path is ....

when does the support become the drug....?

Reassurance, compassion and understanding must be implicit in every spiritual practices but are we needing them to be explicit ? Are we needing the reassurance more than we're wanting to go in and exorcise the parts that make us need the reassurance ?

Everyone needs some reassurance at some time. However the nature of that reasurance can be super healing or super damaging. For instance is that reassurance telling you that you can heal your wounds and be happy... or that someone or some future event will do it for you ?

The first is healing the second is co dependence...

Call that co-dependence love, call it what you will, as the ego struggles to validate need .. However unlike acceptance and honest personal review, co-dependance is ugly and damaging to ourselves and others however we seek to validate it..BUT we've all been there and its no loss of face or judgment to be human...it just needs to be seen for what it is in order to heal and move forward

Dogs bark, cows moo and humans store pain...

But to respect oneself is to admit that yes maybe we do need this more than we'd like to..Its often why we humans seek help far to late because we don't want to admit we have a problem. All too often this makes the healing come later than we would like...

But here's the issue, if we can recognize its no judgment of self to realize the restrictions of the species and the programming we suffer, then we can transcend the problems and rise above them.

Its not the totality of who we are because we are spirit we are energy with almost infinite capacity. But that its contained in a human form that has tendencies we must become aware of so that we embrace and enhance them not suffer from them anymore.....

And so the spiritual journey isn't to find a source of endless reassurance nor to dislike the physical human aspects of life and to see spirituality as some escape to a "better state" like some idealized nirvana...

But to recognize how the systems work both the physical and the energetic, and to work them as they are meant to , in harmony and balance...

Far too many times you see the "I only work from the upper chakras" stuff out there as some idealized thinking that we can't integrate all element of being..

Or that the world of spirit or energy is a better place..Or to run scared of powerful human feelings you just can't control, seeing demons around every corner or blaming it onto others.

In order to find peace and progression we must have a process of realization of the limits of these states, admit that we can easily become addicted, and seek to harmonize being through full awareness of how each element works and how they're meant to come together in one whole entity to work as they are meant to...

Thats the entity sitting reading this...not some "higher" self thats all good or "lower" self thats all lesser, thats polarized thinking.. All chakras are meant to work in the body within which they sit as an integrated balanced union of body and soul, God didn't make a mistake in the packaging department..

If your hooked on readings, don't really believe you can be happy, or are now addicted to sharing when it used to help but it's become just another drug or means to validation, then you aren't bad or broke just human..It happens..

But it can also be fixed...

Recognize where your attachments to spirituality are healthy and where they aren't. Stand back and see whats the solution and whats the problem..whats helping freedom and acceptance and what's keeping you still. If you know something is keeping you trapped in a place but you like it then admit it to yourself. It isn't a judgment of you because......

Dogs bark, cows moo and humans store pain...it goes with the species..
