Motorcycles are notoriously perilous and riders must to put their safety first. It is irrelevant if it is your first time on the back of a bike, or your 5th motorcycle, no one can predict when an accident will happen. A helmet should be worn to help protect the head from injury. Hitting the ground at 50mph is bad enough ; you do not want to be wishing you had a DOT motorcycle helmet. DOT stands for the dept of transport, a government agency. This froth is intended to help absorb and spread the shock of hitting the ground.

This is what will keep the helmet firmly on. Although the DOT does not require that all motorcycle helmets are full face, it does require that they have awfully sturdy chin straps. Make efforts to pull on these straps before purchase to be sure that they can withhold the fast speeds that are related to motorcycles.

For many people, motorcycles are an enjoyable form of travel and recreation. Bike fatalities have gone up by 127% over the last 10 years. The requirement of these laws is supported by the facts. Studies suggest that 65% of motorcyclists killed were not wearing a helmet.
There are many good, yet reasonably priced motorcycle helmets on the market. Among these, the helmet must provide confirmed protection from serious injury. In addition to protection from cataclysmic harm, helmets supply a myriad of benefits which will enhance any rider's experience.

The helmet's appearance, color, finish, and graphics are a very important part of the purchasing process. However the more complicated designs can increase the price substantially . Foregoing fancy helmet designs may decrease the price of a great helmet and make it cheap.

A DOT helmet will be significantly heavier than that of a non certified one. This could appear heavy at first, but you'll quickly get used to it, and will feel safer knowing that you are as protected as possible. Getting a decent fit in a new or used helmet is important. Getting a discount is always great, but if you can't find a discount motorcycle helmet that is's just right, consider the additional money for a new helmet well spent on your safety and comfort.

To know if yours is a DOT licensed helmet you must first look on the back for the letters DOT. This is not always a surefire test , however , as it is really easy to purchase a sticker and place it on any helmet. It has been proved by regime testing that it is safe. The thicker the firm froth the better as it will absorb more of the shock of impact.

DOT motorcycle helmets can spare you from an evil concussion. Nobody should be riding without it.

Accidents happen to the best of us. You will never know when or how bad until it hits you. It is true when they are saying, better careful than sorry. DOT motorcycle helmets are world class standards of safety gear to protect your head when you most need it.
