Ongoing leaf raking and removal is a pain. Budgets are tight and so is your time. I think I'll let those leaves just lie on my lawn for a while. Let the most fall from the trees before I get started. Raking leaves is like making your bed, Why do it?? just wait till next morning and it's messed up again. Why not wait until all leaves are down? It's like this little poem;
The autumn leaves, drift by my window, the autumn leaves.Oh what a pain
Why not wait a little longer? Let all leaves fall, let them fall like rain.
It definitely is a temptation, but consider these three things as you let your leaves pile up on your lawn.
1) If you can't see your yard, neither can the sun.
a. It doesn't take over a couple of days to put real stress on your lawn when you let your lying leaves block out the sun's rays. This is a high stress time for your lawn, Winter is fast approaching, if you let your leaves lie for long, you'll have dead spots that might take most of the next season to recover.
b. Also a big plus, if you let them stay piled up when it rains, they take on a rare and mystical quality of weight, smell and just general disgustingness.
2) Perfect place to grow lots of things
a. A few that come to mind; mold, mildew and fungiLet's not forget that piled up leaves are perfect place for insects to brace for stinging blasts of Winter and then they're all ready to party at your house in the Spring.
3) Your neighbors will love you for being a good neighbor
a. There's nothing better than to see your piled up leaves being blown over to your neighbor's yard during those fierce autumn wind storms. Your neighbors will thank you for it, probably in a special and secret way.
So please, it might be tempting, But pick up leaves and remove them on a regular basis is the best strategy. There are enough circumstances where the truth might get complicated like;
Honey, why is there a scratch on the car? Dad, did you drink before you were 21? Where is my financial bailout?
But don't let your leaves lie on you; it will be another situation you wished you had taken care of from the start. Regularly rake, pick up and remove your leaves, your lawn and your neighbors will thank you.
